Three Moscow teams made it into the top 100 finalists of the competition “Flagships of Education” presidential platform “Russia is a land of opportunities”. In the final, which will be held from November 18 to 21 in Moscow, participants will face new competition challenges. For example, they will organize events for schoolchildren, adapting them to specific grades and given conditions.

Competitive stages

First, the project participants formed teams based on the selected competencies. After that, they prepared ideas in the areas of “Serving the Motherland,” “Creative labor,” “Historical memory,” “Generational continuity,” and “Unity of the peoples of Russia.”

After selection in the regional remote semifinals, 567 teams from across the country were able to continue competing by presenting their concepts to the experts. At this stage, participants explained their idea and demonstrated how well it met educational goals and could be applied in working with children. As a result of the regional semifinals, 100 teams from 46 regions advanced to the finals.

“At the core of the educational activities presented by the finalist teams lie the traditional spiritual and moral values of Russia. Behind each development are people with rich experience and a professional perspective. A parent, a teacher, an administrator, and an education advisor each view the same task differently, and it is precisely in this diversity that the essence is born. In the final stage, we create conditions for the teams where it becomes especially clear what happens to the developed activity when it encounters different children and situations. It is important not so much to preserve the original concept of the event, but to be able to develop it taking circumstances into account, without losing the main thing — understanding for whom and why it is created. Conditions may change, children’s ages may vary, but the child must always remain at the center of this work, and our goal is to nurture a personality in them.”It is important that the best solutions that emerge in the final do not remain the possession of a single team, but continue in schools in different regions — becoming practices that other specialists can use,” noted Andrey Betin, CEO of the presidential platform “Russia — Land of Opportunities” and rector of the management workshop “Senezh.”

Teams representing Moscow

Among the finalists is the Moscow team “Orientir” from school No. 1598, consisting of Anatoly Karpilenko, a mathematics teacher and team captain, Ekaterina Stogova, advisor to the director on education and interaction with children’s public associations, Anastasia Belera, an English teacher, Ksenia Poddubskaya, a geography and biology teacher, and Yulia Saifulina, a student’s mother.

The project “Eco-Commission: Our Footprint,” developed by the team under the “Creative Work” direction, is designed as a large environmental quest. The project is adapted for students in fifth to seventh grades. The motivation came from the observation: children confidently say in lessons that nature must be protected, yet during breaks, they throw plastic cups past the trash bin.

Schoolchildren go through six stations: they learn to sort garbage, purify water, plant vegetation, choose eco-friendly items instead of disposable ones, understand environmental terms, and create their own poster in defense of nature. The children weave rugs from old fabric items for a homeless animal shelter, grow microgreens, and repair old things. Through this process, it is easier for the kids to understand personally why it is important to protect nature.

The team “SPOdvizhniki” of the First Moscow Educational Complex will also represent Moscow in the competition finals. Its members include the foreign language teacher and team captain Olga Gordienko, the teacher of economics and legal disciplines Elena Koroleva, the head of the academic department Irina Stalnova, the mathematics teacher Ekaterina Terekhina, and the career guidance specialist Alina Tsareva.

In the “Collectors of Flavors: Map of Russia at One Table” contest, within the “Unity of the Peoples of Russia” category, student teams choose one of the peoples of the Russian Federation and conduct real “historical excavations.” Participants find an authentic old recipe and then transform it into a modern and healthy dish. At a large gastronomic festival-fair, the teams present their idea on stage in three minutes, and then treat everyone at interactive stations where, through QR codes, you can watch video stories they have made or play mini-games.

The idea arose during a project activity class when students were analyzing the restaurant market in Moscow and studying the best Russian cuisine restaurants. Moreover, 2026 was declared the Year of Unity of the Peoples of Russia, and the team realized that this was the perfect moment to showcase the historical richness, beauty, and value of the cultures of different peoples of our country through gastronomy.

According to Olga Gordienko, the participants developed project management skills, learned flexibility under tight timing, and created an event for their faculty that educates young people. The gastro festival brings together teachers, students, administration, external experts, and industry partners.

Another team — “Growth Point 1370” from school No. 1370 — will also participate in the final. Its members include the principal and team captain Marina Shcheverova, primary school teachers Nadezhda Nadezhdina and Svetlana Zakharyan, the director’s advisor for upbringing and cooperation with children’s public associations Vladimir Kozik, and deputy director Yulia Smolenskaya.

In the “Business in Business” project under the “Creative Work” direction, the school turns 20 minutes of recess into a fair of children’s talents for students in grades one through four. A group of kids prepares short original master classes in advance on origami, bracelet weaving, slime making, demonstrating simple tricks, or assembling a construction set.

The idea for the project’s theme came from observing schoolchildren. During long breaks, not all children know how to fit into fast, noisy games, and some feel left out. Within the project, schoolchildren gain experience in creative work and the opportunity to consciously choose their role and make independent decisions.

Final tasks

In the final of the “Education Leaders” contest, teams from Moscow will have to conduct events for schoolchildren. At the same time, the groups will work with unfamiliar classes, where the age of the children may differ from the one for which the event scenarios were originally designed. One hour is allocated for each development, and no special equipment is provided.

Another challenge for the finalists will be educational cases based on situations from school life. Experts will evaluate not only the proposed solution but also how participants discuss the situation, distribute roles within the team, and come to a common answer. Based on the results, the 10 strongest teams will be selected.

The winner of the “Leaders of Russia” competition will open an AI academy for non-profit organizations
