Five years ago, the “Moscow-2020” trains first started running on the routes of the Large Circle Line (LCL), replacing the previously used “Oka” and basic “Moscow” models. Since then, the line has become one of the busiest and most technologically advanced sections of the capital’s subway.
Over the past year, modern trains running on the BCL have collectively covered nearly 13 million kilometers. For comparison: this distance is equivalent to 34 flights from the Earth to the Moon. Such intensive operation is supported by a fleet of 95 Russian-made trainsets, which now include not only the “Moscow-2020” models but also the latest “Moscow-2024” models.
High reliability of the rolling stock directly affects passenger flow. Only in September of this year, residents of the capital made more than 1.7 million trips on the BKL daily. The support for such large-scale traffic is provided by three specialized electric depots: “Zamoskvoretskoye,” “Aminevskoye,” and “Nizhegorodskoye,” which ensure round-the-clock maintenance and repair of trains.
“By the order of the Mayor of Moscow, Sergey Sobyanin, we continue the program of large-scale renewal of the rolling stock of the Moscow Metro. In October 2021, the first train ‘Moscow-2020’ launched on the Big Circle Line. One of the advantages of the trains is the wide doors and inter-carriage passages 1.6 m wide, which allow boarding and alighting 20% faster. This year, these trains have nearly covered 13 million km through the BCL tunnels, making passenger trips even faster and more comfortable,” said Maxim Liksutov.
