In Moscow Longevity Centers On October 20, the updated program will start operating “Intergenerational dialogue as a resource for positive longevity. Club meetings for the ‘silver’ age”, developed jointly with the Moscow Institute of Psychoanalysis. Taking the course will help older Muscovites better understand the younger members of their family, express their thoughts so that they are heard, and pass on life experience with respect for the interlocutor.
“The experience of the program ‘Dialogue of Generations: Listen to Each Other’ last year showed that participation in the lives of children and grandchildren is very important for older Muscovites. However, partly due to the rapid development of technology, different generations sometimes find it difficult to understand each other. Together with the Moscow Institute of Psychoanalysis, we are launching an updated program that will continue to help Muscovites build relationships with their children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren to improve communication and the psychological climate within families. They will acquire skills that help to calmly express their feelings, listen with attention and respect, manage emotions, and get closer even in difficult conversations. This also helps to form an image of an older person whom people want to look up to — mature, thoughtful, able to listen and convey their opinion authoritatively, with reasoning and dignity,” said the Minister of the Moscow Government, head of the Department of Labor and Social Protection of the Population of the City of Moscow.
How the program is organized
The updated program is built around the practice of live communication. Together with experts, all participants will learn to manage their emotions, discover the differences between the values and habits of different generations, master techniques for gentle conflict resolution, as well as tools for passing on life experiences and family traditions that can be immediately applied in practice.
The program consists of 15 sessions, with a total course duration of two months. During this time, participants will be offered to master three topics, each of which includes five sessions: one lecture and four interactive club meetings.
The program will take place at 80 Moscow Longevity Centers; to accommodate participants, the course is divided into two groups. The first will meet on Tuesdays and Thursdays, and the second on Wednesdays and Fridays.
To ensure a trusting environment, each Moscow longevity center will have a separate highly qualified specialist assigned. The program mentors will be experts who received the best reviews during the previous launch.
This season, the work is organized so that each meeting covers one topic, without close ties to the rest of the course. Sessions of various formats are provided, both lectures and interactive ones.
If participants miss course sessions for any reason, it will not affect the overall outcome. The positive effect will be achieved step by step, during the assimilation of each individual topic. The intensity of the program’s completion will be tailored to the personal needs and desires of each participant: some will attend all meetings within a month, while others will attend only those most interesting to them.
In addition, participants will receive a workbook created by experts from the Moscow Institute of Psychoanalysis containing useful materials. It includes reminders about psychological techniques, breathing exercises, as well as games and trainers for reinforcing the material.
You can find the detailed schedule of classes and sign up for lectures on the project’s dedicated page “Dialogue of Generations”.
Dialogue of generations as an implementation of a life strategy
Joint project “Moscow Longevity” and the Moscow Institute of Psychoanalysis (MIP) “Dialogue of Generations: Hear Each Other” began in 2025. Its initiator was Alexander Asmolov, the scientific director of the institute, Doctor of Psychological Sciences, professor, academician of the Russian Academy of Education. The project methodology was developed by a team of MIP experts under the leadership of Galina Soldatova, head of the Department of Social Psychology, Doctor of Psychological Sciences and academician of the Russian Academy of Education. Senior citizens mastered the art of open communication under the guidance of more than 80 highly qualified coach-psychologists of the Moscow Institute of Psychoanalysis. Over five thousand people participated in the program.
“The desire to pass experience to future generations is a deep psychological need that largely determines a person’s well-being in old age. Generativity, as psychoanalyst Erik Erikson spoke of, is not just care for the young, but the ability to see in them a continuation of oneself, one’s family, one’s culture. When the older generation finds ways to transfer wisdom to the younger, it gains new significance and a life perspective. Our project creates a space where this process becomes conscious, creative, and brings joy to both sides: those who pass on experience and those who receive it. In dialogue, intergenerational solidarity is born and a culture of dignity is formed, which makes society humane and allows it to withstand any changes,” emphasized Alexander Asmolov.

Senior citizens are also invited to attend the autumn marathon at the Moscow Longevity centers and partner venues. As Anastasia Rakova, Deputy Mayor of Moscow for Social Development, explained, Muscovites can look forward to seven thematic blocks in various areas, as well as two new courses — “Barista School” and “School of Russian Tea Tradition”.
