At the State University of Management, students of grades 10-11 from the Advanced Engineering School (PISH) “RosGeoTech” of the Grozny State Oil Technical University named after M.D. Millionshchikov were told how to take the first steps in business and launch startups. The meeting took place within the framework of the project session “Business and Entrepreneurship”.

Opening the meeting, Maxim Pletnev, Head of the Scientific Research Coordination Department at the State University of Management, acquainted the guests with the activities of the Research and Design Institute “RosGeoTech” – which develops areas of alternative energy, power engineering, oil and gas industry, as well as autonomous unmanned and robotic systems.

Andrey Luzhetsky, head of the Advanced Engineering School, addressed the participants with a welcoming speech.

The central event was the lecture “From Idea to Business” where Dmitry Rogov, director of the business incubator of GUU, told the schoolchildren how a startup differs from a regular business: high growth rate, minimal initial costs, and focus on a unique product. However, only 1% of startups achieve significant sales volumes and bring high profitability.

A separate section was dedicated to the startup lifecycle – from concept development and MVP (minimum viable product) creation to scaling and choosing an exit strategy. The speaker paid special attention to the key launch steps: team formation, market and competitor analysis, business model development, and finding investors.

In conclusion of the lecture, the director of the GUU business incubator gave the students practical recommendations on presenting their projects: focus attention only on the most important aspects, rely on numbers and metrics, avoid complex terminology, and clearly articulate the investment request.

Schoolchildren were able to apply the knowledge they gained in practice. At GUU, there was a project defense session where the kids presented their ideas based on the lecturer’s recommendations. The defenses took place in a format close to a real pitching, allowing participants to consolidate the material and receive feedback.

The event is aimed at engaging talented school students in a project focused on training highly skilled specialists for the country’s engineering industry.
