Park “Severnoe Tushino” In the northwest of Moscow, known for its promenade stretching about three kilometers, it creates a sense of endless water space thanks to the proximity of the Khimki Reservoir. The history of this area is incredibly rich: ancient human settlements have been found here, the lands were owned by members of illustrious noble families, and later fertile apple orchards blossomed in these parts. It is a magnet for those interested in the past and present of the fleet — a themed museum is located here, and equipment is displayed outdoors. Even the fountain in “Northern Tushino” is shaped like a sail!

In the fall, life in the park does not stand still either: there are master classes, performances, and much more held in the pavilions.

Maritime mood within the city

Walking through the modern park, it is hard to imagine that people have lived in these places since the Neolithic era, but excavations confirm it. Why is the stop near the southern entrance called “Zakharkov”? From the 16th century until the 1930s, there was a village of the same name here. These lands were owned by the famous Cherkassky princes, and in the 18th century the estate passed to the Sheremetev counts — representatives of an equally illustrious family! No one took or sold these lands — everything happened out of love (and perhaps a little calculation): the only daughter of Prince Alexey Cherkassky married Petr Sheremetev, and the estate became part of her rich dowry.

In the 20th century, Zakharovo changed its status: first it became part of the city of Tushino, and in the 1960s it was incorporated into the capital. At the same time, the pier and a small bay in the park area are still called Zakharovsky.

On the other bank of the Khimki Reservoir stands the monumental Northern River Terminal. Yes, it is quite far — but it is from here that you get the feeling of the sea. It is hard to believe that there was once no large body of water here — only the small Khimka River flowed, which was engulfed by the reservoir at the end of the 1930s. Today, this entire water system is part of the famous Moscow Canal.

Apple orchard and commemorative lilac

An equally interesting place is the apple orchard. It all started there in the 1950s. Back then, on collective farm land, they grew apples of various varieties, and also potatoes! Later, birches and other trees began to be planted. In 1992, the Northern Tushino park of culture and recreation was established, and the orchard became part of it. Some of those plantings have survived to this day and delight visitors with seasonal blossoms. In the northern part of the park lies Alyoshkinsky pond, its water surface framed by weeping willows and other old deciduous trees. They create a romantic corner of tranquility reminiscent of 19th-century artists’ landscapes.

The park features the Alley of Glory — it was established in 2010 and is surrounded by lilacs. The bushes are named, and behind each one is a significant human story. For several years, relatives of the participants of the Great Patriotic War planted lilacs in memory of their loved ones. The stories of their lives and feats are displayed on stands. Nearby is the “Alley of Rescuers” — where Ministry of Emergency Situations employees planted 15 maples.

Unique military equipment and immersion in naval history

The most unusual thing is the naval equipment exhibition set up on the embankment. O submarine Many know: this is the submarine B-396 “Novosibirsk Komsomolets” — the central object of the Museum and Memorial Complex of the History of the Russian Navy. Such a large-scale exhibit has no less interesting neighbors — let’s focus on them. The hovercraft assault landing craft “Skat” arrived from Kaspiysk. It was designed to land troops literally anywhere: no dock or infrastructure is required. In addition, such boats helped in rescue operations.

Next to it is a synthesis of an aircraft and a ship — the ekranoplan “Orlyonok,” which looks impressive. The machine moved over the water surface at airplane speeds — up to 400 kilometers per hour, with a payload capacity of up to 140 tons. By the way, other exhibits are also displayed outside: torpedoes, an emergency rescue buoy, and other parts of various types of naval equipment.

In autumn, one sometimes wants to alternate outdoor walks with time spent indoors. Nearby is the exhibition pavilion of the Museum of the History of the Russian Navy, featuring many interesting exhibits. A themed exhibition is open here until December 31. “The History of Diving” — is a visual and detailed story about the evolution of equipment from the first heavy diving suits to modern underwater search gear.

The head of the museum department, Elena Zotova, notes: “We see our mission not merely in preserving exhibits, but in creating a unified space of experiences. Visitors to the park can move from admiring nature to an exciting immersion in naval history, gaining completely different but equally vivid emotions in one visit.”

Modern infrastructure and activities for all ages

Today, the “Severnoe Tushino” park is a multifunctional complex. There are cafés, open areas for mini-football, volleyball, basketball, table tennis, three courts for tennis, and workout zones. Bicycle rental points operate during the warm season. The park director, Svetlana Andreyanchenkova, emphasizes: “Our main goal is to create a space where everyone feels comfortable. We strive so that morning joggers, parents with strollers, teenagers, and elderly couples all find their ideal way to relax in the park. Therefore, we pay equal attention to developing sports zones and creating quiet corners for nature contemplation.”

This principle is implemented through regular activities. Anastasia Bozhenko, head of the department for organizing leisure groups, explains: “We see a widespread demand for regular wellness activities. Therefore, the park hosts the running club ‘5 Verst’ on a permanent and free basis, as well as classes in general physical training, Nordic walking, Qigong breathing exercises, and partner dances. These are not just workouts but real communities of like-minded people who energize each other.” On the ‘Mosbilet’ service, for example, you can sign up for yoga masterclasses or zumba.

The park constantly offers new educational formats. Photo exhibitions in the open air are updated monthly on the central alley and near the museum. The current program includes scientific activities, exhibition tours “Grandeur and Depth”, as well as a children’s workshop “Coloring Flags,” where participants get acquainted with the system Navy signal flags.

In winter, “Severnoe Tushino” is also bustling: the park offers special attractions that make it one of the favorite recreational spots for Muscovites.

Tickets for events in the parks can be purchased through the service “Mosbilet”.
