A meeting of the Supervisory Board of SPbPU was held at the Mariinsky Palace under the chairmanship of Mikhail Kovalchuk, president of the Kurchatov Institute National Research Center. The discussion focused on the implementation of the University’s Development Program until 2030, with a perspective until 2036, on financial and economic activities, and on the effective use of the property complex. In addition, the members of the Supervisory Board decided to recommend to the Ministry of Science and Education of the Russian Federation the candidacy of Andrey Rudskoy for the position of rector of SPbPU.

The Supervisory Board was also presented with a film discussing the role of the Polytechnic University in achieving technological leadership, partnerships with industry, and international cooperation.

Today, the main task of Russian science and education is to achieve technological leadership. Polytechnic focuses its efforts on three key scientific and technological areas: systems digital engineering, new materials and manufacturing technologies, and artificial intelligence. The university develops solutions for high-tech sectors of the economy and forms the technologies of the future.

As for developing partnerships with the industry, modern engineering is impossible without close ties to the real sector of the economy. Polytech collaborates with the country’s largest corporations: Rostec, Rosatom, Gazprom, Gazprom Neft, the Kurchatov Institute, Power Machines, and many others. Joint projects and educational programs allow for the rapid implementation of developments into production and the preparation of specialists to meet the real needs of the economy.

But the main capital of Polytech is its people. Each year, the university becomes increasingly sought after by talented young people. In 2026, more than 51 thousand applicants submitted over 290 thousand applications for admission. The Polytech family grew by 11 thousand freshmen. They came from different regions of Russia and many countries around the world to create the future together. Polytech not only educates but also transforms engineering education by combining fundamental training, digital technologies, and a practice-oriented approach.

Polytech is forming a large polytechnic fraternity — a community of people who develop science, education, and industry for the benefit of the city, region, and country. In recent years, more than 140 outstanding scientists and public figures from Russia and abroad have become honorary doctors of Polytech.

In addition, the Polytechnic University is actively expanding international cooperation. Currently, SPbPU is implementing projects in countries in Asia, Africa, and Latin America. Polytech also oversees the work of Slavic universities and the Russian-African Network University.

I consider it fundamentally important that the development of Polytech ensures not only the growth of the university itself but also the formation of the scientific and technological base of the industry of Saint Petersburg and the entire country. This is precisely how Polytech becomes an active participant in the structural changes of the economy,” noted SPbPU Rector Andrey Rudskoy.
