In the capital, electric buses started operating on three more routes. Thanks to this, passengers in 18 districts have convenient access to rail framework stations, important social, cultural, and sports facilities, and other popular places.

This was reported by the Deputy Mayor of Moscow for Transport and Industry Maxim Liksutov.

“Following Sergey Sobyanin’s directive, we continue to develop a network of environmentally friendly ground transportation routes. Electric buses have a positive impact on the environment, and their interiors provide everything for comfortable trips. On weekdays, 32 innovative vehicles will operate along three new routes and stop at 51 rail frame stations,” added Maksim Liksutov.

Routes on which the electric buses will operate:

— round-the-clock B. Now, only innovative environmentally friendly transport operates in both directions. This became possible thanks to the installation of modern ultra-fast charging stations at the “Presnya” operational site;

— the night N10. It covers 24 rail frame stations so that passengers can get home even during the nighttime;

— No. 564. Electric-powered vehicles operate in the Severnny and Lianozovo districts in the northeast of Moscow. They provide a comfortable way to get to parks and squares, as well as to educational and medical institutions in the district.

In Moscow, 13 bus routes will change starting October 10

Eco-friendly transport

Since 2018, innovative electric-powered vehicles have been arriving in the capital. Today, the network of ground electric transport covers all districts of Moscow. Electric buses feature smooth rides, absence of noise and vibrations, making trips even more comfortable. The main advantage of such transport is the absence of negative impact on the city’s ecology.

Today, there are more than three thousand electric buses in Moscow. On weekdays, passengers make an average of over 1.2 million trips on them, and since 2018, their total number has exceeded 1.1 billion.

New equipment deliveries and the development of charging infrastructure will enable the creation of more electric bus routes in Moscow. The order for the production of modern vehicles for the capital supports employment in the regions and stimulates the development of domestic industry.

Electric transport provides a high level of service and meets strict safety standards. Low-floor electric buses are fully adapted for passengers with limited mobility. They are equipped with fold-out ramps and driver call buttons. If necessary, the driver will assist in boarding and alighting from the vehicle.

Bicycles, strollers, and large luggage can be placed in the accumulation area. USB ports are provided for charging gadgets, and media screens display up-to-date information about the nearest stops and possible transfers.

The climate control system allows you to maintain the optimal temperature inside the car cabin at any time of the year. An air curtain, which activates when the doors open, helps maintain the temperature.

The electric buses have buttons for targeted door opening. For passenger safety, the vehicles are equipped with external and internal video cameras. Near the doors, there are digital validators that allow you to pay for the ride conveniently.

Since 2022, improved specification equipment has been supplied to the capital. Adaptive lighting in such electric buses changes from a cool shade to a warm one at 14:00. The front route indicator has been increased by 18 percent, making the number visible from a distance. The electric heater does not have a negative impact on the environment and maintains an optimal temperature. The range has increased from 40–50 to 80–90 kilometers, while the vehicle’s weight has remained the same.

Today, electric buses operate at 13 Mosgortrans sites. Moscow was the first in Russia to begin building modern depots for such transport. In 2022, the first electric bus depot in Russia and the largest in Europe, “Krasnaya Pakhra,” opened in the Troitsky and Novomoskovsky Administrative Okrugs (TiNAO). Vehicles started running on routes in TiNAO.

A year later, the “Mitino” park was built in the northwest of the capital. After its opening, electric buses began operating on routes in 20 districts of Moscow and two nearby towns in the Moscow region. At the end of 2023, the third innovative park — “Saltykovka” — opened, serving routes in the east.

In 2025, the new generation KamAZ-52222 electric buses were put into service. Thanks to a redesign, the storage area increased by 15 percent. The cabin now includes places for hand luggage, and the door design has been changed. The climate control system has become more efficient, and light strips indicating door opening and closing have been installed on the doors. The exterior of the vehicles now better aligns with modern trends in global industrial design.

Next-generation electric buses are being created taking into account the operational experience of earlier models and passenger feedback. Since entering service, these vehicles have traveled over 10 million kilometers and have proven themselves well. This equipment is serviced at 10 Mosgortrans facilities.

According to data from MosEcoMonitoring of the capital Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Protection, thanks to the replacement of buses with electric buses from 2018 to 2025, Moscow managed to avoid the emission of about 1.3 thousand tons of pollutants and 300 thousand tons of carbon dioxide — the equivalent of greenhouse gases. Just in 2025, nearly 380 tons of pollutants and 110 thousand tons of carbon dioxide were prevented from entering the air thanks to environmentally friendly transport.

In accordance with the goals of the national project “Infrastructure for Life” In Moscow, great attention is paid to the modernization of social and municipal infrastructure, including increasing the number of convenient urban transport routes and updating the rolling stock. In addition, as part of the national project, the capital has begun developing the Central Transport Hub, which will become a unified circuit with predictable suburban rail transport for more than 30 million residents of 11 regions of the country.
