Why is it that when listing famous scientists, it is often difficult to recall women?
Until the beginning of the 20th century, women engaged in science exclusively against the odds. Against the absence of women’s educational institutions, stereotypes, and public condemnation. What drove these women to continue their scientific pursuits? And how did their quest continue in their “scientific and spiritual heirs” — modern women scientists?
These questions are answered by the exhibition “Women Scientists. Science Without Permission,” opened at the Museum of Moscow. On October 16, next to the exhibition, a screening of the “Biology” series of the documentary series of the same name will take place at the “Chtivo” cinema, which is part of the large multimedia project “Women Scientists,” as well as a discussion with scientists Nikita Lavrenov and Ksenia Tabachnikova. In the episode of the series, women biologists will talk about the structure of the brain, nuances of behavior, and species kinship.
