The Moscow educational project “School of the Young Investor” became a laureate of the annual “Best Social Projects of Russia” award in the category “Financial Literacy.” The free interactive program helps children understand the basics of economics, get acquainted with entrepreneurship and the principles of urban trade. This was reported by the head of the city’s Department of Competitive Policy Kirill Purtov.

“Familiarity with the city economy helps young people see opportunities for their future. It is important to give them an understanding of how business is created and developed, why investments and open auctions are needed, and what role competition plays in this ecosystem. In the ‘Young Investor School,’ we explain this through business games: participants try themselves as entrepreneurs and investors, apply the knowledge gained, and analyze the results of their decisions. Such experience helps broaden their horizons and get acquainted with directions of future professional activity. Over 11 years, more than 35,000 Moscow schoolchildren have participated in the project. This year, its contribution to children’s financial education was once again recognized with the ‘Best Social Projects of Russia’ award. In 2026, the program plans 235 events for more than four thousand children. Classes take place at city educational venues, as well as in the format of offsite business games in Moscow schools and colleges,” noted Kirill Purtov.

Capital Department of Competition Policy created the project in August 2015. Its implementation is handled by the subordinate state budgetary institution “Moszakupki”.

The initiative first received the “Best Social Projects of Russia” award in 2016. In 2026, the jury once again highly praised its contribution to improving the financial and investment literacy of young Muscovites.

“The second win at the ‘Best Social Projects of Russia’ award proves that the project not only maintains a high standard, but is also continuously evolving along with the city. The scale of the initiative has grown dozens of times: when the project was first launched, it involved only 88 people, and now we train about 4.7 thousand school students annually. The program is highly demanded by the capital’s schools — teachers and educational institution leaders actively invite us to conduct off-site business games,” noted Evgenia Bondarenko, director of the State Budgetary Institution ‘Moszakupki.’

In the lessons, schoolchildren get acquainted with investments, the basic principles of competition and financial management. In addition, students acquire skills necessary for everyday life: expense planning, fund allocation, and aligning desires with financial capabilities.

The knowledge gained is reinforced by the participants during business games. For example, they are asked to draft a business plan for an enterprise, compete in an auction for commercial premises or company shares, or participate in a tender for product supply. The participants make decisions independently, analyze the results, and defend the developed business proposals. This approach helps to link theory with practice, demonstrate entrepreneurial abilities, improve financial literacy, and expand understanding of future professional activities.

The “Best Social Projects of Russia” award has existed for 13 years. It recognizes social initiatives and supports the development of partnerships between the government, society, and business in the social sphere.
