The volunteer movement “We Are Near. Aid to the Front” of the Kurkino district sent about 50 tons of humanitarian aid to the special military operation (SMO) zone in nine months of 2026.
Since the beginning of the special military operation, more than 900 people have joined the movement. Activists collect and send in-demand items to the frontline. Some essential items are handmade in two workshops. One room, for a sewing workshop, was provided to them by the district administration. The second was built and equipped by the volunteers themselves.
The movement was organized by Svetlana Che, a mother of four children and a parishioner of the Church of the Great Martyr George the Victorious in Kurkino.
“Many people joined our team without sewing skills and have mastered the full production cycle — from cutting the material to assembling complex tactical products. Seamless logistics have been established: trucks with cargo are dispatched several times a week. Since the beginning of the special military operation, volunteers have sent over 350 tons of humanitarian cargo to the front line, about 50 tons of which were sent in the nine months of this year,” Svetlana said.
Since 2022, activists have sent more than 25 thousand frameless stretchers, over 15 thousand sledges, more than five thousand camouflage nets, over three thousand blankets with thermal imaging protection, and more than a thousand anti-drone curtains to the frontline. Members of the movement have purchased and delivered generators, power tools, sleeping bags, as well as thousands of knitted hats, scarves, and sets of thermal underwear. Parcels invariably include food, letters, and children’s drawings.
For participants of the special operation undergoing treatment and rehabilitation in hospitals of Moscow and the Moscow region, activists knit socks, sew bed linen and special clothing suitable for Ilizarov apparatuses.
