In the theater “Sovremennik”, subordinated to the capital Department of Culture, the 71st season has opened. At the traditional company gathering, artistic director Vladimir Mashkov shared creative plans.
Premieres
The first play of the season, which will be shown on November 13 and 14 on the main stage, will be “The Concierge” based on the film script “The Neighbor” by Valery Todorovsky and Vsevolod Benigsen. Directed by Klim Kozinsky.
On December 16 and 17, viewers will be invited to the “Turbin Days.” Director Oleg Antonov will address the play by Mikhail Bulgakov. Vladimir Mashkov will serve as the artistic director of the production.
“This play, written in 1925, is incredibly modern and amazing in its ciphers that it contains. The work is complex, heavy. But together with the actors, we will try to cope with this challenge,” said Vladimir Mashkov.
The first premiere of next year will be the tragicomedy “The Moth” based on the play of the same name by Roman Emelyanov. The central plot focuses on a young man named Maxim: together with his girlfriend, he lives off his retired father and has no intention of changing anything. His sole goal is to send his parent to a nursing home, but the father has completely different plans. The play will be directed by Alexander Strizhenov, with performances scheduled for January 22 and 23.
The last major premiere of the season will be “Figaro.” The play “The Mad Day, or The Marriage of Figaro” by Pierre Beaumarchais will be brought to the stage by director Sergey Gazarov.
On the Other Stage, actors Sergey Girin, Natalya Ushakova, Semyon Shomin, and others will present their directing projects. They will turn to contemporary dramaturgy.
“We will pay special attention to the Other Stage, which, of course, should be our living space. Several applications are currently in progress, and if everything goes well, we will see the performances we were hoping for. I have already seen some preliminary work and am looking forward to its continuation,” said the artistic director of the theater.
Anniversary events and tour plans
This season, events dedicated to the 70th anniversary of the theater will continue. Memorial plaques will be unveiled for actors Viktor Sergachev, Liliya Tolmacheva, and Galina Volchek.
