In 2026, the Moscow Pedagogical College (MPC) will celebrate its 45th anniversary. Currently, it enrolls over four thousand students across seven fields of study. Over the past three years, the number of freshmen has nearly doubled. Ninety-five percent of this year’s graduates have successfully found employment, and 65 percent of them began working in the city’s schools while still studying. This was reported by the press service of the capital Department of Education and Science.
“In 1981, the college admitted its first students — future preschool educators and primary school teachers. Today, the educational organization includes four buildings, including its own center for practical training. The programs are designed in such a way that future teachers acquire more competences demanded by employers. Graduates with the qualification of preschool educator have the opportunity to obtain an additional profession as a nanny; physical education and sports teachers can become fitness instructor assistants or camp counselors, and labor teachers — hiking and trekking guide instructors,” noted the agency’s press service.
Practice as the foundation of learning
In the training system for future teachers, a significant place is given to practice. It begins in the first year and takes up almost two-thirds of the study time.
During the internship, future educators and teachers, under the guidance of mentors, become acquainted with the organization of the work of schools and kindergartens, analyze pedagogical situations, select educational, play, and diagnostic materials, design lessons, and conduct their fragments within the group, and then discuss them with their instructor.
During their internship, students work directly with children in kindergartens and schools under the guidance of methodologists and experienced teachers.
During their pre-graduation internship, senior students conduct full-fledged classes and lessons. At the same time, about 60 percent of graduates from the Moscow Pedagogical College receive job offers and continue working at the places where they did their internships — in Moscow schools and kindergartens.
“Over 45 years, our college has united several generations of educators for whom education has become a life’s work. For us, it is especially important to maintain this continuity: their experience today is the foundation for the professional development of future teachers and caregivers. At the same time, the college is evolving: technologies, educational environments, and approaches to specialist training are changing, but the main constant remains—the educator’s contribution to the development of children and their future. We are proud that our graduates come to work in the capital’s schools and kindergartens and continue the college’s traditions in their own classes and groups,” said Irina Kuracheva, director of the Moscow Pedagogical College.
Today, IPC has over 250 partner employers. Among them are Moscow schools № 2070, 1363, 1502 “Energiya”, 2036, 444, 1568, Kurchatov School, as well as the School in the Southeast named after Marshal V.I. Chuikov.
Last year, a practical teacher training center was opened, which has no analogues in Russia. In it, students hone their professional skills and competencies in the laboratories “Diagnostics and correction of child development,” “Interactive equipment and technical creativity,” “Project activities,” as well as in the workshop for primary classes and preschool education. Classes are held simultaneously for more than 200 students. In addition, professional skills championships and a demonstration exam take place at the center.
More than a profession
Over the years, the college has trained about 20,000 specialists. Among them are, for example, Elizaveta Bogatyreva — winner of the All-Russian professional competition “Educator of the Year in Russia,” advisor to the Minister of Education of the Russian Federation on a voluntary basis, as well as Ekaterina Tikhonova — member of the Council of Teacher-Bloggers established under the Public Council of the Ministry of Education of the Russian Federation.
Students of MPK actively participate in large-scale educational and creative events such as the Moscow colleges forum, the Kremlin Christmas tree event, and the All-Russian career guidance forum “Russia — My Horizons.” Many students are involved in the college’s media center, theater, and sports club. Some students have become coordinators of the city project “Spiritual Heritage”: they assist in conducting master classes at festivals and fairs, organize intellectual games, and take part in preparing meetings with famous people.
A volunteer movement is developing at the college: for example, in the past academic year, students launched more than 330 events, joined by over 800 people. Initiatives include charitable projects, support for hospitals and boarding schools, participation in exhibitions as media volunteers.
At the end of the last academic year, the MPC was awarded a third-degree grant from the Mayor of Moscow in the ranking of the contribution of educational organizations to the quality education of Moscow students.
