From October 10 to 11, the International Festival “Science 0+” will be held in the capital — one of the largest educational events in the field of popularizing science not only in Russia but also worldwide. It will take place within the framework of the Decade of Science and Technology. The theme of the festival this year is “Your Cosmic Universe.” More than 70 events are planned for guests at the venues of the Moscow Department of Culture: science shows, lectures, master classes, and creative meetings.

Neurobiology of decisions and blood diseases: program for October 10

The scientific and educational center “Zapovednoe Posolstvo” of the “Zaryadye” park will become one of the central venues of the “Science 0+” festival. Over two days, guests can expect lectures by leading experts, science shows, interactive stations, exhibition projects, and dozens of workshops for children and adults.

Traditionally, one of the key platforms will be the “Lecture Hall Without Borders.” The event will be opened by Aigul Nasibulina, a graduate student of the “Life Sciences” program at the Skolkovo Institute of Science and Technology. She will deliver a lecture titled “Why We Act the Way We Do: The Neurobiology of Decisions.” The audience will learn what happens in the brain at the moment of making a choice and even before it, how its different parts argue among themselves, and why the absence of emotions does not make a person a perfect rationalist.

Professor Vladimir Reshetov, Doctor of Physical and Mathematical Sciences at the Institute of Laser and Plasma Technologies of the National Research Nuclear University MEPhI, will give a lecture on the Manhattan Project, atomic confrontation, and the consequences of the awakened atom for civilization. The talk will cover the technological breakthrough of the 20th century, global risks, and the possibilities of virtually inexhaustible energy.

Deputy Director of the A.P. Avtsyn Research Institute of Human Morphology, Roman Deev, will talk about the “human on a chip” technology — modern biotechnological systems that allow modeling the functioning of human organs and conducting studies that can complement traditional drug testing.

Anastasia Kashlakova, a hematologist at the National Medical Research Center for Hematology, will give a lecture titled “Blood and Blood Diseases in Cinema: Where Is the Truth and Where Is the Fiction?” Together with the audience, she will analyze scenes from films and TV series and explain how accurately leukemias, bone marrow transplants, and the work of hematologists are depicted in popular culture.

The program for the first day will also include scientific talks, during which six scientists from the Patrice Lumumba Russian University of People’s Friendship will explain science in simple terms. The topics vary—from the influence of fear on heart function and physiological reactions of the body to how memes have paved the way into science. In addition, the final round of the children’s drawing contest “The World of Science Through the Eyes of Children” will take place.

In 2026, the International Festival “Science 0+” together with Zaryadye Park created the nomination “Biologists Save the World,” dedicated to those who study life in all its forms — from microbes to ecosystems — and use this knowledge to fight diseases, protect biodiversity, and build a sustainable future for the planet. The program concludes with a large-scale scientific show for the guests.

Astrophysicists’ enigmas and rapid diagnostics: program for October 11

The second day of the lecture series will be dedicated to the structure of the living world and the cosmos. The lecture “The Great Escape from Reality: How Play in Animals Led to Space Exploration” will be given by Anastasia Antonovich, senior researcher at the A.N. Severtsov Institute of Ecology and Evolution Problems of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Candidate of Biological Sciences. She will explain why animals play, the hypotheses that explain the origin of play behavior, and what significance play might have had in human evolution.

Senior Researcher at the Institute of General Physics of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Candidate of Physical and Mathematical Sciences Arseniy Gavdush will talk about the ices of outer space — from water ice to frozen complex organic molecules in comets, on the surfaces of celestial bodies, and in interstellar clouds, as well as about laboratory astrophysics methods.

Russian astronomer, candidate of physical and mathematical sciences, one of the most famous science popularizers in Russia, Vladimir Surdin, will give a lecture titled “From the Solar System to the Big Bang.” The speaker will talk about what we have learned about planets and stars, what threats from space Earth faces, and which mysteries particularly concern astrophysicists.

Inside the imaginary spaceship “Zaryadye,” there will be a medical unit where, over two days, the Russian Scientific Center for Surgery named after Academician B.V. Petrovsky will present the “Reboot Station ‘Horizon-V3.0 Petrovsky’: the medical module of your future.” Visitors will be able to undergo express body composition and biological age diagnostics, learn about the principles of healthy eating, and try their hand at surgical techniques on a laparoscopic simulator.

The medical cluster of Pirogov University will present programs on clinical medicine and biomedical sciences. Guests will have the opportunity to learn about vascular surgery, forensic medicine, inflammation mechanisms, and basic principles of electrocardiography, while activities on resuscitation, brain studies, and immunity will be prepared for the youngest participants.

In the engineering hall, guests will find an educational program by the Moscow Aviation Institute, where a space technology exhibition will be organized. The United Engine Corporation of Rostec will present an exhibition about engines for space rockets at the festival. Visitors will learn about their design using the example of the NK-33 engine model, created for the lunar rocket N-1, and later used to launch the Soyuz-2.1v. For the first time, a cutaway model of the turbopump unit—the heart of the engine that maintains pressure for fuel combustion—will be shown. They will also present a device known as the “matchstick for a rocket.” Throughout the weekend, specialists from the enterprises will be on the stand, ready to answer questions. A workshop for children on assembling a toy from space components will also be held.

Guests will also be able to visit the children’s amusement park area “FixiePark,” where a themed photo zone will be opened. In the macro-constructor zone made of large gear-shaped parts, kids will create art objects in a space style to develop spatial thinking and independent design skills.

For the first time, the aeroponic complex “Zaryadye” — the “Florarium” — joined the festival program. The greenhouse staff will open doors to the world of soil-free plants. In the growth chamber, there will be a tour called “Beyond Soil”: visitors will learn about hydroponics and aeroponics, discover their significance for space, and hear stories about space harvests. In the “Florarium,” for the youngest visitors, a tour “Without Soil, But With a Harvest” will be held: children will see the aeroponic system, take a walk through the underground greenhouse, and appreciate the results of soil-free cultivation.

The full schedule of scientific sessions can be found at website. Admission is free.

Learn about neural networks and decipher the language of animals

The State Darwin Museum will also participate in the festival. October 10 from 10:00 to 18:00 Here, there will be training sessions and lectures. Guests can look forward to a master class on working with neural networks, organized by the museum’s partner — the Moscow School of Programmers.

From 12:00 to 16:00 Children and adults will get acquainted with machine learning options and the creation of the first neural networks that have already taken the world by storm. Anyone interested will be able to independently use sorting options for machine learning. To do this, the organizers suggest using images of animals. At the workshop, you can find both advanced options for adults and ones suitable even for toddlers with their parents.

You can discover the universe of the scientific world at the exhibitions “Evolutionary Dynasty” and “Escape from Solitude.” The first exhibition is dedicated to the 160th anniversary of the birth of the outstanding zoologist, comparative anatomist, evolutionist, founder of the A.N. Severtsov Institute of Ecology and Evolution Problems of the Russian Academy of Sciences, and the 90th anniversary of the birth of his grandson, zoologist, embryologist, and evolutionist A.S.
