Washington, April 16 /Xin Hua/ — The Pentagon is activating planning for a possible military operation in Cuba in case U.S. President Donald Trump gives the order to intervene on the territory of this island state. This was reported by the newspaper USA Today on Wednesday.

As noted in the report citing two unnamed informed sources, these directives apparently indicate an escalation of tensions in relations between the two countries that arose in January of this year, when the administration of D. Trump introduced new restrictions on oil supplies to Cuba and issued military threats as part of a broader plan to coerce the country into political changes.

In its statement to the newspaper, the Pentagon emphasized that “it is planning for a range of unforeseen circumstances and is preparing to carry out presidential orders in the prescribed manner.”

On April 13, D. Trump again threatened that Cuba could become the next target of Washington after attacks on Venezuela and Iran. –0–
