October 7 is celebrated as Pregnant Women’s Day in Russia. In Moscow, free training sessions are regularly held as part of the city projects “Sports Weekends” and “My Sports District.” These classes help to stay active, strengthen muscle structure, and at the same time not overload the body.
Sports Weekend Project
The project offers Muscovites group classes at 15 city venues. The training programs are designed taking into account everyday physical activity: they emphasize strengthening the back and core muscles, stretching, and functional exercises. This approach helps maintain joint health and reduce discomfort that often arises from sedentary work.
The schedule includes a variety of classes from which you can choose suitable options: yoga, Pilates, barre and barre 2.0, stretching, including hot stretching, functional and dance workouts, fitrock, and other disciplines.
For expectant mothers, practices such as yoga, Pilates, and stretching are especially relevant: they promote relaxation, improve flexibility, and help maintain overall tone.
“With a normally progressing pregnancy, reasonable physical activity is an important part of a healthy lifestyle. Regular gentle workouts help maintain muscle tone and keep active, improve overall well-being, and make it easier to adapt to the changes that occur in a woman’s body during pregnancy. Exercises aimed at maintaining general endurance, mobility, and coordination are especially useful — all of which will be helpful to a woman both during childbirth and in the recovery period afterward. It is very important that city classes are held under the guidance of professional instructors: during pregnancy, the load should be comfortable, gradual, and correspond to the woman’s fitness level. The opportunity to train for free and near the home makes regular physical activity more accessible and helps form the right habit already during pregnancy. Of course, if there are complications or doubts about the permissible load, the format of classes should be discussed in advance with your doctor,” said obstetrician-gynecologist Ivan Osokin of city clinical hospital No. 67 named after L.A. Vorokhobov.
To participate in the training, you must register in advance. Registration opens every Thursday at 12:00 on official website of the “Sports Weekends” project or at the public service centers “My Documents.” The website also contains detailed information about the venues and the current schedule of classes.
The trainings are organized By the Department of Sports of the city of Moscow. The project aligns with the objectives of the Russian Federation’s state programs «Development of Physical Culture and Sports» and “Sport of Russia”, as well as the information campaign “Motivation for Sports and Promotion of Sports Infrastructure.” One of the goals is to increase the share of citizens who regularly engage in physical culture and sports to 70 percent by 2030. The capital makes a decisive contribution to achieving this goal. Special attention is paid to the proximity of infrastructure, support for families with children, as well as the integration of participants and veterans of the special military operation and their family members into the sports community. More about Russia’s national projects and the capital’s contribution can be found at special page.
You can learn how the capital has changed over the past years, what initiatives aimed at making citizens’ lives even more comfortable are currently being implemented, and what awaits Moscow and its residents in the near future in a large-scale special project on the mos.ru portal, dedicated to the development of key sectors of Moscow. These include transport, industry, healthcare, education, sports, and construction.
On the project page “Sport” Information is presented about the reconstruction of dozens of historic sports facilities, including the Olympic complex “Luzhniki,” the ski complex “Vorobyovy Gory,” and the equestrian complex “Bitza,” as well as about the sports infrastructure available to every city resident.
