Deputy Prime Minister Tatyana Golikova held a meeting at the Government Coordination Center with the heads of national medical research centers. On the agenda was a discussion of the current activities of the institutions.
As Tatiana Golikova noted, national medical research centers were established in 2017 as part of the implementation of the Medical Science Development Strategy. The centers were initially created primarily as scientific and practical institutions, and subsequently, within the framework of the national project “Healthcare,” their functions were supplemented with organizational-methodological and analytical work.
In 2024, at the Forum of Future Technologies, the President of Russia, Vladimir Putin, gave the directive to expand the network of NMICs and to give them a new impetus for development. For this purpose, a federal law was adopted, establishing a new, higher status for the centers, as well as a Government decree “On National Medical Research Centers,” and rules for the selection and operation of the NMICs were approved.
From January 1, 2025, special attention is paid to the development of the network of national research centers within the framework of the eponymous federal project of the national project “Long and Active Life.” By a Government decision, from July 1, 2026, the status of national medical research center has been assigned to 52 centers based on 39 organizations.
“In recent years, the status of national medical research centers has significantly increased. Their functions have expanded from scientific and practical tasks to organizational and methodological work and overseeing regions in specialized areas. This requires coordinated work throughout the entire healthcare vertical. Our main goal is to ensure that citizens can receive accessible and high-quality medical care using the most modern methods of diagnosis and treatment regardless of where they live,” emphasized the Deputy Prime Minister.
The meeting participants discussed the specifics of offsite events organized by centers in the regions, analytical and organizational-methodical work, as well as research within the supervised areas.
