First Deputy Chairman of the Government of Russia Denis Manturov spoke at the main strategic session of the international forum “Bioprom,” the theme of which was “High Quality of Life Ecosystem,” and also familiarized himself with the exhibition display.

The First Deputy Prime Minister read out the welcome message from the President of Russia, Vladimir Putin, to the guests and participants of the forum.

“To discuss a wide range of issues related to the development of the bioeconomy in our country, your forum once again brought together representatives of relevant ministries and agencies, scientific and educational institutions, expert and business circles at the Gelendzhik Arena,” reads the President’s greeting.

Vladimir Putin emphasized that it is precisely the implementation of innovative technologies in medicine and the pharmaceutical industry, agriculture and the forestry sector, energy, and housing and communal services that largely determines the quality of life of people, their health, and environmental well-being.

Denis Manturov noted that the key areas of biotechnology development are reflected in the new industry development strategy for the period up to 2036 and for the further prospect up to 2050, which was approved on the eve of the forum.

“The main priorities of the strategy concern strengthening our own technological base, deep processing of biological resources, creating new markets, and expanding the use of biotechnologies in traditional industries. Today, hundreds of Russian enterprises and organizations are working in these areas. The specialized national project has allowed us to begin uniting their potential, and we already see the first results. In the nine months of this year, production in the bioeconomy sector has increased by 3%,” said the First Deputy Prime Minister.

The key task today is to build complete production chains within the country, from raw materials to technologically sophisticated products with high added value. The national project “Technological Support for the Bioeconomy” has identified 36 such product chains.

“We have already identified the technologies, competencies, and production capacities we have for almost 80% of them, as well as which components still need to be created. This allows us to objectively assess what restrains the transition to mass production. Currently, the main limitation concerns the industrial development of laboratory developments. To overcome this, pilot plants and experimental productions are needed, where the technology can be tested and prepared for scaling up,” said the First Deputy Prime Minister.

Among other current tasks are ensuring demand for bioeconomy products and strengthening the scientific and personnel base of the industry.

“The main emphasis in personnel training is also placed on requests from enterprises. Their flow is increasing, and about 3,000 applications have already been submitted for training workers in the field of biotechnology,” noted Denis Manturov.

At the exhibition area of 7,000 sq. m, over 100 companies presented their advanced technologies. Among them are Magnit, Geropharm, Arnest, Sibur, Rostec, and the Skolkovo Foundation. Some of the developments showcased at the exposition have already been launched into production, many have completed testing, and there are prototype samples.
