The revival of river navigation is one of the most striking and successful transportation projects in the capital in recent years. Sergey Sobyanin talked about the development of shipbuilding in his blog.

“In 2025, the total passenger traffic of cruise, sightseeing, and regular river transport reached 4.5 million trips. This is the highest figure in the last 30 years. And the popularity of regular river electric transport exceeded our wildest expectations — the number of passengers increased fourfold. More passengers — more routes — more vessels. And it will be very good if most of these vessels are launched in the capital at the new Moscow shipyard in Nagatinsky Zaton,” wrote the Mayor of Moscow.

A modern full-cycle enterprise for the construction and maintenance of electric vessels was opened in 2025.

Equipment and components for Moscow electric vessels are supplied by factories located in Saint Petersburg, Leningrad, Yaroslavl, Nizhny Novgorod, and Samara regions, as well as in the Perm Territory and many other regions of the country. Thanks to extensive cooperation, all main units and assemblies of electric vessels, including the hull, engine, glazing, control systems, and software, are produced exclusively in Russia.

The production program of the Moscow shipyard provides for the laying of more than 100 electric vessels by 2030. Currently, two models are in development — “Moscow 1.0” for regular river routes and the sightseeing vessel “Moscow 3.0.” The first four “Moscow 1.0” vessels — “Taganka,” “Yakimanka,” “Polyanka,” and “Maroseyka” — have already been launched and tested during sea trials before being put into service.

The shipyard is building the second batch of four electric vessels, which are planned to be launched by the end of the year.

The electric vessels “Moscow 1.0” accommodate up to 56 people. The cabin is equipped with all amenities for comfortable trips, including information screens, USB chargers, free Wi-Fi, and spaces for transporting bicycles.

The two-deck electric sightseeing vessels “Moscow 3.0” will be noticeably larger: over 35 meters in length and eight meters in width. Their capacity will be up to 168 passengers. A spacious salon, panoramic glazing, and an open upper deck, as well as an absolutely silent electric motor with zero emissions of harmful substances, will provide passengers with a new quality of river cruises.

In the summer, the Moscow shipyard began constructing four “Moscow 3.0” electric vessels, and four more are scheduled to be laid down shortly. By the end of 2028, up to 14 electric vessels of this series are planned to be launched. Thus, gradually, “Moscow 3.0” will become an environmentally friendly replacement for the old tour fleet, which currently consists of more than 160 riverboats aged 40 years or more.

The strategy for the development of Moscow transport includes an increase in the total number of trips on river vessels to seven million per year. Regular passenger service will be carried out across the entire water area of the Moscow River within the city limits. By 2035, the capital’s river fleet should fully switch to electric propulsion. The Moscow shipyard will make a decisive contribution to solving this task and at the same time give a strong impetus to the development of domestic shipbuilding.

To find out how the capital has changed in recent years, what initiatives aimed at making citizens’ lives even more comfortable are currently being implemented, and what awaits Moscow and its residents in the near future, you can look at the extensive

special project on the portal mos.ru, dedicated to the development of key sectors of Moscow. Among them are transport, industry, healthcare, education, sports, and construction. The project Transport It will be of interest to everyone who wants to learn about the main stages of development in this field, support for electric transport, and the development of the route network. In recent years, Moscow’s public transport has become more comfortable and environmentally friendly, travel time within the city has been significantly reduced, and infrastructure for private electric vehicles has appeared.
