Baku, April 15 /Xin Hua/ — The first meeting of the Women’s Council of the Conference on Interaction and Confidence-Building Measures in Asia (CICA) took place on Tuesday in Baku, marking the official start of the work of this new consultative body.

Speaking at the meeting, OSCE Secretary General Kairat Sarybay emphasized that the establishment of the Women’s Council institution demonstrates determination to turn dialogue into action and make governance more inclusive through meaningful participation of women in all spheres of life. He expressed gratitude to Azerbaijan for the initiative to create this body and for holding its first meeting.

The Chairperson of the State Committee on Family, Women, and Children’s Issues of Azerbaijan, Bahar Muradova, in her speech expressed confidence that the Women’s Council of the CIS will become an effective mechanism for strengthening mutual trust, exchanging advanced experience, and promoting initiatives aimed at expanding the rights and opportunities of women. According to her, the Women’s Council’s activities will contribute to the formation of a more inclusive and sustainable future.

At the meeting, the representative of China in the Women’s Council of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, a researcher at the Chinese Institute of Women’s Studies, Shi Xin, told the participants about the Chinese theory and practice of promoting gender equality and comprehensive development of women.

Xi Jinping emphasized that China is ready to actively cooperate with all countries to practically implement the outcomes of the Global Summit on Women, scheduled to take place in Beijing in 2025, creating a favorable environment for the development of women, generating a strong impetus for the high-quality advancement of women’s affairs, building an effective governance system that protects the rights and interests of women, and writing a new chapter in promoting global cooperation in the women’s sphere.

On the same day in Baku, the opening ceremony of the international conference on the topic “Activation of the role of women in the name of sustainable development in the CWCDA space” took place. Within the framework of the conference, panel discussions were held on topics such as “Women entrepreneurs in small and medium businesses: the application of artificial intelligence and digitalization” and “Women’s leadership in environmental protection and increasing sustainability.” –0–
