Beijing, April 16 /Xinhua/ — China’s GDP grew by 5 percent in the first quarter of 2026 year-on-year, which is 0.5 percentage points higher than the growth rate recorded in the fourth quarter of 2025, the National Bureau of Statistics /NBS/ of the PRC reported on Thursday.

According to data from the CSY, in the first quarter of this year, the country’s GDP reached 33.4 trillion yuan / about 4.87 trillion US dollars.

“In the first quarter, ‘the growth of production and supply accelerated, market demand continued to increase, the employment situation remained generally stable, market prices rose moderately, and high-quality development gained a new positive impetus,’ says the NBS statement. “The national economy took off well, demonstrating increased resilience and vitality.”

China’s GDP in 2025 will grow by 5 percent annually. China has set a goal to ensure economic growth in 2026 at the level of 4.5-5 percent and will strive to exceed this indicator in practice. -0-
