After the vacation season ends, Muscovites return to their usual work rhythm, and city projects help incorporate regular physical activity into it. This is especially important for sedentary work: prolonged time spent in one position puts additional strain on the body, affects posture, reduces joint mobility, and impairs blood circulation. Over time, this can negatively impact the condition of the musculoskeletal system and overall well-being.

Free training sessions for people of various fitness levels are taking place in the capital. The classes are organized near home and at other city venues, so there’s no need to significantly change your usual schedule for them.

Training sessions of the “My Sports District” project

One such project is “My Sports District”. On September 30, its largest summer season came to an end. More than 154 thousand people participated in outdoor workouts held at over 140 venues in 96 districts of the capital. Such practices embody the city’s philosophy of healthy longevity: physical activity helps relieve accumulated tension, restore inner balance, and strengthen health.

In the past season, 36 new sites were added for activities, including in the Aeroport, Danilovsky, and Konkovo districts. The special project “At the Height” also continued its work: training sessions in dance fitness, yoga, stretching, and Zumba were held on 16 rooftops of city buildings, including district centers called “Meeting Place.” For the first time, Muscovites aged 16 and over could join the classes.

In addition, city residents went ice skating at the open summer rink in the Luzhniki Olympic Complex. Tickets for training sessions sold out quickly — almost immediately after registration opened. The “Running Culture” club also continued its activities, combining training sessions with talks by experts in sports, nutrition, architecture, and Moscow history, as well as walks through picturesque city spots. Each run is accompanied by a coach, who leads warm-ups and cool-downs, and a guest expert.

“The summer season of 2026 was the most grandiose, eventful, and vibrant season of the project. More than 154 thousand city residents participated in 14,300 training sessions led by professional instructors from Moscomsport. I thank everyone who spent this summer with us. The autumn season is ahead, which means we continue training and preparing for winter,” said Polina Ermoshina, curator of the trainers of the ‘My Sports District’ project.

The autumn program began on October 1. In the new cycle, over 1,200 sessions will be held for city residents at more than 50 venues in 47 districts of the city — in courtyards, parks, and other spaces popular with residents.

The sessions will be conducted by professional trainers. Participation is free — just choose a convenient location, date, and time, and register in advance at on the website.

The training is aimed, among other things, at strengthening the muscular corset, developing flexibility, and maintaining back health. Olga Alexeeva, a physician specializing in traumatology and orthopedics at Traumatology and Orthopedics Department No. 2 of the V.P. Demikhov City Clinical Hospital, spoke about their benefits.

“Back and core muscle exercises, stretching, and functional training are not only ways to restore muscle tone after a workday, but also a full-fledged prevention of musculoskeletal diseases. A strong muscular corset protects the spine, and regular balanced exercise preserves the function of large joints and promotes cartilage nutrition. It is especially important that the sessions take place near home and do not require extra time for commuting, while working with professional trainers helps to correctly dose the load and reduce the risk of injury. My main advice: start gradually, with light loads, but exercise regularly. Two to three workouts a week can noticeably improve well-being and help maintain freedom of movement for a long time,” noted Olga Alekseeva.

Training sessions of the “Sports Weekends” project

Another format of free city workouts is offered by the project “Sports weekend”. Group sessions are held for Muscovites at 15 venues.

The programs take into account the daily load characteristics of the modern city dweller. The classes emphasize exercises for the back and core muscles, stretching, and functional movements that help maintain joint mobility and reduce discomfort associated with sedentary work.

City residents have access to yoga, stretching, functional and dance workouts, fitroc, Zumba toning, high-intensity interval training, hot stretching, hot yoga, hot barre, hot Pilates, Pilates, barre, barre 2.0, classes on suspension trainers, and fitness boxing.

Pre-registration is required to participate. You can sign up for the training on the project’s website “Sports Weekend” and in public service centers “My Documents”. Detailed information about the venues and class schedules is also posted there. Registration opens on Thursdays at 12:00.

“Sports Weekend” is a joint project of the capital Department of Sports and the ‘My Documents’ state services centers, which appeared in 2020. Thanks to it, Muscovites can join free classes led by professional trainers either online or at special venues.

The project aligns with the objectives of the Russian Federation’s state programs “Development of Physical Culture and Sports” and “Sport of Russia”, as well as the information campaign “Motivation for Sports and Promotion of Sports Infrastructure.” More about Russia’s national projects and the capital’s contribution can be found at special page.
