On the site Moscow Startup Summit On September 30, the autonomous nonprofit organization (ANO) “Entrepreneurs’ University” will present a new approach to working with promising scientific developments. It will unite scientific teams, technology businesses, and investors — companies will be able to more quickly find solutions for specific tasks, and developers will find potential customers and partners for the implementation and scaling of technologies.

At the first stage, the program focused on connecting entrepreneurs with the student community to launch new business projects in the format of workshops.

The next stage of development was working with the full life cycle of a technological project — from searching for promising scientific developments to attracting industrial partners, structuring investment deals, creating joint ventures, and bringing new products to market. The process is built on the counter-movement of two streams — funnels of entrepreneurs (aggregation, verification, and packaging of real sector requests) and developers (collection and decomposition of developments and unique competencies of scientific teams). The assembly point is a tripartite letter of intent, and the target capitalization model is the creation of joint ventures and attracting investments. Requests in the fields of unmanned aerial vehicles, bioeconomy, applied robotics, and microelectronics are already being worked on.

At the specialized session “Technological Capital as the Basis for Technological Leadership: A New Model for Science and Business,” Nikolai Dolgikh, CEO of the “Entrepreneurs’ University,” will discuss the details of creating a unified mechanism for interaction among science, business, and investors.

The new model is based on working with both business requests and advanced scientific developments. In the first case, the ANO receives a specific technological request from a company and selects developments and scientific teams capable of offering a solution. In the second case, it works with promising technologies from scientific teams, helping to find potential customers, industrial partners, and investors. The program is already in effect. Any participant from the business side, investment environment, or scientific center can submit an application on the website. “Entrepreneurs’ University”. This approach allows to shorten the path from laboratory development to implementation and further scaling of the technology.

As part of the “University of Entrepreneurs” program, an inter-university workshop “AI Assistant for Theater” has opened“University of Entrepreneurs”: the list of platforms for creating innovations has been supplemented by Bauman Moscow State Technical University

According to Alexander Vaino, Director of the “Young Professionals” division at the Agency for Strategic Initiatives, the starting point of such work should be a specific request and an understanding of the expected result.

“Russian scientific teams have strong developments, and it is important to create conditions for their practical application. The earlier interaction with a potential customer occurs, the more accurately it is possible to determine the demand for the technology, the possibilities for its piloting, and further development. The new model is precisely aimed at building such cooperation between science and business around specific technological tasks,” noted Alexander Vaino.

At the ANO, a database has been formed consisting of nearly one and a half thousand scientific developments, more than 30 industrial partners, and 10 investment funds. Work is being carried out in nine areas of technological leadership, such as unmanned aerial systems, new materials and chemistry, production and automation tools, transport mobility, atomic and energy technologies, food security, health-saving technologies, bioeconomy, and space. The interaction of participants will form the basis for testing a new mechanism.

According to Nikolay Dolgikh, CEO of the Autonomous Nonprofit Organization “University of Entrepreneurs,” the goal of the new model is to establish effective interaction among science, business, and investors.

“Today, the task is not only to create strong scientific developments, but also to provide them with a clear path to implementation and scaling. To achieve this, it is necessary to connect scientific potential, real business demand, and investment resources into a unified system. It is precisely such a mechanism that we are currently forming and plan to test on specific technological projects,” noted Nikolay Dolgikh.

ANO “Entrepreneurs’ University” is working on forming a sustainable model for interaction between science, business, and investors, identifying effective tools for supporting technological projects and possibilities for further scaling of the mechanism.

One of the key formats is workshops where scientific teams and business clients jointly solve specific product tasks. Unlike the classic models of interaction between the client and the execution team, in this case the key result is a new independent technology company, in which the university and the authors receive licensing fees, royalties, or dividends, investors receive shares, and the entrepreneur receives the product. A market value of the company is formed — the difference between the costs of its creation and the valuation at the time of the deal or the achievement of sustainable revenue. This very difference is the real capitalization of the technology that works for the economy, creating taxes and jobs.
