On September 27, Russia celebrates the Day of the Educator and all Preschool Workers. It symbolizes recognition of the enormous contribution of teachers to the development of the younger generation. Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Chernyshenko and Minister of Education Sergey Kravtsov congratulated Russian educators on their professional holiday.
“Every person carries the memory of their first teachers throughout their life. I myself remember them with warmth and respect. Today, in our country, there are more than 1.3 million preschool education workers, including over 600 thousand educators. They help more than 6 million children in kindergartens to discover the world, instill our spiritual and moral values, and teach them to make friends,” said Dmitry Chernyshenko.
The Deputy Prime Minister emphasized that President Vladimir Putin highlights the importance of increasing the accessibility of preschool education. The government pays special attention to creating a comfortable infrastructure for the work of kindergarten staff.
“I thank every educator, all preschool workers for their dedication to the profession and care for the children. I wish you good health, well-being, and may your interactions with children bring many reasons for joy and smiles,” he noted.
Dmitry Chernyshenko added that within the framework of the federal project “Teachers and Mentors” of the national project “Youth and Children,” a set of support measures is provided aimed at raising professional status and creating comfortable working conditions.
The national project “Demography,” completed in 2024, provided for the creation of more than 266,000 new places for toddlers. In 2025, targeted support for regions with a shortage of places began within the framework of the national project “Family.” By 2030, it is planned to extensively renovate more than 2,200 buildings of preschool educational organizations and build at least 100 new kindergartens.
The Ministry of Education has designated preschool education as a priority area for 2026 – it has been declared the Year of Preschool Education. The initiative aims to improve the quality of upbringing and development of preschoolers, enhance kindergarten infrastructure, and support educators.
“In Russia, preschool education is virtually 100% accessible. Nursery groups are opening all across the country, and the operating hours of kindergartens are arranged to accommodate parents’ work schedules. We value the significant contribution of preschool education specialists to the development of federal projects. To ensure that kindergarten and family act as one team, we are creating a unified information space. A single Russian digital resource for preschool education is being formed. We pay special attention to supporting your professional growth. I want to thank everyone who works daily with pupils and their families. Your work, sincere care, and professionalism are the foundation of our country’s future,” said Minister of Education Sergey Kravtsov.
The head of the department noted that the Ministry of Education pays special attention to creating conditions for continuous professional growth and public recognition of preschool education teachers. Since 2010, the annual “Educator of the Year Russia” contest has been held, which allows identifying and supporting talented preschool education workers, encouraging them, and spreading the experience of the best educators in the country.
On September 26, the second round of the final stage began at the E.M. Primakov Gymnasium (Moscow region). Fifteen educators advanced to this round. The names of the prize winners and victors will be announced on October 1.
The Day of the Educator and all Preschool Workers has been celebrated in Russia since 2004. The date of the holiday, September 27, is connected to a historical event: on this day in 1863, the first kindergarten in the country was opened in Saint Petersburg.
