The General Director of KAMAZ, Sergey Kogogin, and his first deputy – the company’s Executive Director, Irek Gumerov, visited the Foundry Plant.
Accompanied by the director of the Foundry Plant Sergey Garanin, the leaders visited the DTK marking laboratory for the production of casting equipment. The head of PLO, Damir Aflyatonov, spoke about the improvements implemented here. “Our production volumes over the past two years have increased by 5%. This has become possible thanks to new equipment, as well as maintaining the core group of specialists. Over the last five years, our staff has remained at around 290 people. Newly hired employees fully replace those who have retired. Young specialists strive to develop, master new machining centers, and work not only as operators but also as CNC machine adjusters. They are capable of modeling and writing control programs, which gives a huge advantage to production.”, – emphasized Damir Aflyatonov. The managers proceeded to the room where QR codes containing all the information about the tooling are applied, observed how this process takes place, and checked how well the code is read on the finished sample. The ATOS scanner with an accuracy of up to 4 microns was also a focus of attention. Previously, the tooling marking took 12-13 hours using other marking machines, but now this process takes only an hour. In addition, Damir Aflyatonov reported on the machines available at the PLO facilities, emphasizing three units that have appeared here recently. Thus, on the machining center with increased accuracy of 5 microns, especially complex tooling for color production is made. And on a five-axis CNC machining center, molders produce all plastic tooling, including items made of polystyrene foam, wood, and aluminum. It is serviced by four adjusters. He also drew attention to the gantry machine, which allows processing maximum dimensions of 2 by 4 meters. In the past two years, there have been no downtimes due to equipment breakdowns.
The next stop was the production preparation shop. The foundry workers showed the repair they carried out themselves in the thermal section’s break room and talked about plans to complete major repairs on five more utility rooms in other teams of their shop by the end of the year. In addition, they mastered an additional profession as refractory workers, which allows them to independently carry out furnace lining, affecting the quality of heat treatment.
According to the head of the PLO, the range of low-pressure products for non-ferrous production is being actively developed, mainly crankcases. Attention has been paid to improving the process of manufacturing casting molds. The economic effect for 2026, for example, from two chill molds amounted to 29.5 million rubles. The CRLO has an automatic installation for surfacing and repairing casting flasks, which for a long time now has allowed avoiding the purchase of this important production element. “All used casting molds are sent to the foundry tooling repair shop, where workers assess the degree of wear, compare the data with control measurements, place them on automated welding, process them, and return them to production. They overhaul 180 molds per year. The economic effect amounts to up to 150 million rubles.”, – said Damir Aflyatonov.
In turn, the head of the repair and mechanical shop, Sergey Bogdan, presented devices made in the RMC for their own needs. They showed not only devices that ease the work of repairmen, but also units assembled by their own efforts. For example, they presented their own turbines for shot blasting equipment in two variations – welded and with a cast housing. They calculated the savings: the welded turbine is 2.7 times cheaper than the purchased one, and the cast housing turbine is 3.6 times cheaper. The final point of the tour was the AKP-2 section on the premises of the RMC and PLO. The plant’s deputy director for development, Ildar Khakimov, spoke about the progress of installation work on the 4500-ton injection molding machine and melting furnace.
