September 27 is celebrated as World Tourism Day. This summer, participants from the service, educational, construction, and agricultural divisions of Russian student teams helped make travel more comfortable, as well as got to know new places themselves. They worked in airports, hotels, and restaurants, became conductors on passenger trains, and also joined major projects in various parts of the country.
“ Student squads provide a unique opportunity for young people not just to see the country, but to become part of a great cause. Working in the tourism and hospitality sector teaches responsibility, teamwork, and the ability to create comfort for others. For many young people, this is their first step into a profession and their first serious life experience, which stays with them for a long time,” noted Margarita Savinkina, project leader. Youth of Moscow“.
This summer, student groups from the capital worked in 20 regions of Russia. In addition, young Muscovites joined international projects in Egypt, Bangladesh, and Turkey. They also took care of feeding children and staff in camps in other regions of the country. For many of them, the work trip allowed them to see new cities.
“Moscow student brigades provide young people with work and travel experience already during their studies. In one season, they can earn money, try themselves in a profession, become more independent, and at the same time see new regions and other countries. As a result, the young people return home not only with a line on their resume but also with a wealth of impressions, acquaintances, and real life experience,” said Yulia Drozhzhina, Chairwoman of the Board of Russian Student Brigades, Chairwoman of the Board of Moscow Student Brigades, State Duma deputy.
This summer, construction teams built power stations in Sakhalin, as well as in the Leningrad and Kurgan regions. Counselors of pedagogical teams worked in the largest children’s centers of Vladivostok and Dzhubga, while medical students cared for patients in hospitals in Tomsk, Orenburg, Chelyabinsk, and Irkutsk. Conductors accompanied passengers on trains to Saransk, Kazan, and Anapa, and members of agricultural teams harvested crops and tended to animals on farms in the Ryazan and Leningrad regions and Krasnodar Krai.
Participant of the service division of Moscow student squads Olga Zakharchenko shared that this summer she joined the International Student Service Labor Project “Runway.” She worked at Pulkovo Airport in Saint Petersburg.
