Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu began his speech at the UN General Assembly’s general debate by addressing delegates who left the hall in protest. He called them “moral cowards” and accused countries that condemn Israel’s actions of hypocrisy, saying that privately they thank him for strikes on Iran’s nuclear facilities. Netanyahu stated that the decision to carry out these strikes was one of the “easiest” for him during his years as prime minister, convinced that without them, Israel faced annihilation.
A significant part of Netanyahu’s speech was devoted to the Hamas attack on Israel on October 7, 2023, and the subsequent war. He stated that Israel had to confront enemies on multiple fronts at once – from Gaza and Lebanon to Iran and Yemen. Recalling the words of his brother Yonatan, who died during the hostage rescue operation in Entebbe in 1976, the Prime Minister said: “We will win. We have no other choice.”
Netanyahu rejected Israel’s accusations of genocide in Gaza, calling them “the greatest lie of the century.” According to him, Israeli military warned residents of upcoming strikes and took numerous measures to protect the civilian population, whereas Hamas used civilians as human shields. “Israel did not commit genocide,” he stated.
The Prime Minister also launched a criticism against Qatar and Turkey, accusing them of supporting the Hamas leadership and spreading anti-Israel claims. He separately addressed New York Mayor Zohar Mamdani, stating that his remarks about Israel fuel antisemitism. Netanyahu linked the events to what he called the “eighth front” of the war – the “battle for truth” in the media and on social networks.
Netanyahu also expressed confidence that the current Iranian authorities will eventually lose power and that the Iranian people will gain freedom. He called on Jews worldwide not to succumb to fear and reiterated that Israel will defend itself.
