The President of the State of Palestine Mahmoud Abbas spoke at the general political debates of the 81st session of the UN General Assembly with a pre-recorded video message. According to him, the Palestinian delegation was not issued visas for the second consecutive year to participate in the meetings in New York.

Abbas called the visa refusals “illegal punitive measures” and a violation of the United States’ obligations as the host country of the UN headquarters. He urged the American administration to lift the restrictions.
The main part of Abbas’s speech was devoted to the situation of the Palestinians in Gaza and the West Bank, including East Jerusalem. He accused Israel of destroying Gaza, expanding settlements, and trying to force Palestinians to leave their homes.

Abbas stated that Palestine welcomed the peace plan of US President Donald Trump and Security Council Resolution 2803; however, according to him, the measures outlined have not yet been implemented. He called for an acceleration of the next phase of the plan, which should lead to the unification of Gaza and the West Bank under the control of Palestinian institutions. Abbas also confirmed his commitment to the establishment of a demilitarized Palestinian state that would live in peace and security alongside Israel.
Abbas also emphasized that Palestine rejects attacks on civilians, regardless of who commits them, as well as terrorism and extremism in all their forms. According to him, the Palestinian leadership opposes anti-Semitism, racism, and hatred, and strives for dialogue and peaceful coexistence.
Concluding his speech, the president addressed the Palestinians: “We will not leave our homeland. We will not agree to expulsion and will not allow anyone to decide our future for us.” He again called for the creation of an independent Palestinian state with its capital in East Jerusalem and urged countries that have not yet recognized Palestine to do so. Abbas also advocated granting the State of Palestine full membership in the UN.
