On September 15, the international agency ShanghaiRanking published the results of the annual global subject ranking of universities Global Ranking of Academic Subjects (GRAS). Novosibirsk State University once again confirmed its high status in world science by taking the position 301–400 in the subject ranking in physics — traditionally a key area of the university’s presence in this study. The result exactly matches last year’s.

The main achievement of this year was the advancement of NSU in the national segment of the ranking. The university pushed Tomsk State University down and took 4th place among Russian universities, being surpassed only by MSU (101–150), MIPT (201–300), and MEPhI (201–300).

Despite a general slight decline in scores on several indicators, NSU demonstrated strong results in certain categories. The university took first place in Russia in the indicator “International Collaboration,” proving the high involvement of Novosibirsk physicists in global scientific collaborations. NSU retained second place in the country (after MIPT) in the category “World-Class Research Output,” as well as in the category “Research Impact,” where this year NSU ceded the leadership to MEPhI. NSU holds third place in the nationwide ranking (after MSU and MIPT) in the indicator “High-Quality Research.”

Overall, the GRAS methodology evaluates universities in 57 subjects based on 9 indicators, including human resources potential, scientific results, quality and impact of research, as well as international cooperation.
