Capital Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Protection invites first graders to participate in the fourth season of the environmental marathon “First Graders in Action.” Throughout the school year, students will get acquainted with environmental topics and complete practical tasks related to caring for nature.

Participants will find six video stories about good deeds for the benefit of the environment. Children will learn how to properly handle waste and what to do with used notebooks, what challenges animals face in winter and how to help them, as well as why early-flowering plants need protection.

Short videos can be used in class meetings and world studies lessons, as well as a basis for discussion and practical activities.

“We want children to understand from a very early age that nature is not something distant, but our common home, which can and must be cared for. Every year we see how first-graders get fascinated by the stories and enthusiastically complete the tasks. This season, we made the plots even more interesting to surprise and inspire young ecologists,” said Elena Zharkova, head of the Department of Environmental Education and Awareness of the Moscow Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Protection.

After each segment, first graders will receive a simple task. During the month, they can complete it together with a teacher or parents, and then send a small photo report of the completed work to the organizers. Family teams are also invited to participate.

This way, students will be able not only to learn more about nature but also to apply the acquired knowledge in practice. Working on tasks together will help them develop teamwork skills and feel like participants in environmental conservation initiatives.

The marathon will start on November 1. On this day, registered participants will receive the first video segment and assignment. They will get the next episode on December 1, then every month until April.

Methodological recommendations will be prepared for the curators. They will explain how to organize the completion of assignments in class together with the teacher and at home with the parents.

Applications for participation are accepted from October 1 to October 25, 2026. To do this, it is necessary to send an application to the email: GPXM-eco-project@eco.mos.ru and attach consent for the processing of personal data. Detailed participation conditions are published on project website.
