The Arbatsko-Pokrovskaya metro line will be extended to Balashikha in the Moscow suburbs. The length of the new section will be more than eight kilometers. This was reported by the Deputy Mayor of Moscow for urban policy and construction. Vladimir Efimov.

Earlier, Sergey Sobyanin, during a visit to a factory in Mytishchi, spoke about plans to extend the subway to Khimki, Mytishchi, Balashikha, and Krasnogorsk.

“Residents of Balashikha, the most populous city of the Moscow Region, will receive the long-awaited metro thanks to the decision made by the capital to extend the Arbatsko-Pokrovskaya line from the currently under-construction station ‘Golyanovo’ to the Balashikha district. The length of the new section will be 8.3 kilometers. Two stations will be built on it — ‘Vostochny’ and ‘Balashikha,’ which will become the terminus. In the future, this will improve transportation services for the area of the capital’s Vostochny district and the Moscow suburb of Balashikha, with a projected population of over 670 thousand people. In accordance with the development plans for the metro until 2035, previously announced by Sergey Sobyanin, around 35 new stations are planned to be built in Moscow and the Moscow Region,” said Vladimir Yefimov.

Currently, only one station operating on the Arbatsko-Pokrovskaya metro line is located in the Moscow Region — “Myakinino.” It is situated within the territory of the Krasnogorsky District.

Now two more will appear: one in the Vostochny district of Moscow, and the second along the Shchelkovskoye highway in Balashikha.

The design of the new section begins concurrently with the construction of the Golyanovo metro station. Its appearance will significantly alleviate the transport interchange hub Shchyolkovskaya, which houses the international bus terminal and the metro station of the same name, as well as Shchyolkovskoye and Gorkovskoye highways.

“The Moscow Metro is the main urban transport of the capital. The opening of a metro station always gives a huge boost to the development of any district, stimulating business growth and the creation of new jobs there. Today, under the leadership of Sergey Sobyanin, a large-scale program for the development of the metro until 2035 is being formed. Taking into account the stations currently in operation, in just nine years, 33 percent of the residents of the Moscow region will live in the service area of the Moscow metro. About 600 thousand people will use the new sections daily, and travel time from the region to the capital will be reduced by approximately half,” said the Deputy Mayor of Moscow for Transport and Industry.

Maxim Liksutov.

The capital’s metro system has significant carrying capacity reserve, which allowed the city to make a strategically important decision to extend the radial lines beyond the Moscow Ring Road. In addition to “Vostochny” and “Balashikha”, 10 more new stations are planned to be built in the Moscow region.

The Tagansko-Krasnopresnenskaya, Rublyovo-Arkhangelskaya, Arbatsko-Pokrovskaya, Kaluzhsko-Rizhskaya, Lyublinsko-Dmitrovskaya, and Biryulyovskaya metro lines will soon reach the nearest settlements of the Moscow region. This will significantly improve communication between Moscow and its nearest suburbs. As a result, 3.7 million residents of the region will be able to save from 30 to 60 minutes on their trips.
