Specialists urban economy complex This year, more than 560 roofs of apartment buildings have been majorly renovated. This was reported by the Deputy Mayor of Moscow for Housing and Communal Services and Improvement. Pyotr Biryukov.

“The activities are being carried out within the framework of the regional capital repair program, which is one of the largest housing modernization projects not only in Russia but also in the world. It includes over 30 thousand buildings with a total area exceeding 320 million square meters. Since the program’s implementation, more than 10 thousand roofs have been refurbished, and this year over 560 out of 850 planned roofs have been repaired,” noted Petr Biryukov.

The scope of work includes a complete replacement of the roofing covering, as well as the repair of joints between slabs, fences, and areas where the roof adjoins the gables and cornices.

Major repairs of flat roofs are seasonal work, carried out only at above-zero temperatures. The process begins with the removal of the old waterproofing and several layers of roofing felt. Beneath them lies a reinforced sand-cement screed. If it is damaged, it is either partially restored or completely replaced. In the final stage, a polymer-bitumen material is laid, which ensures the roof’s resistance to sharp temperature fluctuations.

Repair of pitched metal roofs can be done at any time of the year. During the work, the old covering is replaced with galvanized metal, and the attic floor is additionally insulated. This allows increasing the building’s energy efficiency.
