The Science Picnic has been held since 2015, and each time a team of volunteers is formed to organize it. This season, more than 30 people responded.
— Overall, the weather conditions that day were challenging. But everyone coped, and we are very grateful to the guys. Thanks to the help of caring students, we once again held the Science Picnic on September 1 for schoolchildren, students, and university guests at a high level., — noted Elena Alexandrovna Krasilova, head of the Youth Policy and Educational Work Department of NSU.
A feature of this year’s Picnic was the large number of first-year volunteer students: the guys had just enrolled and came to help on their very first day of classes. Many worked at 150 percent effort: after completing their tasks, they wrote in the chat, asked where to go next, and continued working. Some stayed at the venue until late evening, when the concert and fire show ended, and the dismantling of the site was underway.
Thank-you letters were also received by the photographers and videographers of the Picnic: volunteers from the Student Media Center and the NSU Photo Club. Guests always eagerly await the vivid reports and photo albums to find themselves and their friends.
At the meeting, volunteers were told about the current development of the volunteer system in Russia. Great importance is now attached to the roles and significance of volunteering, and the Dobro.rf platform is actively developing. Whereas previously it mainly featured specific organizers — student volunteer groups or subdivisions — the process of creating personal accounts for universities is now underway. This will be a kind of digital model of the university, connecting all faculties, institutes, and structural subdivisions — organizers of good deeds (events and activities), while student associations and clubs will be able to create their own accounts within the university’s overall structure.
Other types of activities related to helping people, such as donation, will also be moved to the platform. Donors will be able to register, their donations will be recorded, and the donor book can be downloaded just like the volunteer book. This provides students with additional opportunities: the platform is developing cooperation with resources like HeadHunter, so a future employer will be able to see a candidate’s volunteer experience and participation in donation campaigns. This opens up new opportunities for the job seeker.
Following the meeting, a decision was made to create an extended active group of the student association “Volunteers of NSU.”
