Explosion in a mosque in Pakistan

Ukraine: sexual violence
According to a report published on Friday by the United Nations Human Rights Office, since the beginning of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine over four years ago, sexual violence has been used against civilians and prisoners of war as part of a “horrifying practice of torture, intimidation, and coercion.” Between February 24, 2022, and July of this year, 1,004 cases of sexual violence were documented. Of these, 89 percent were attributed to Russian military personnel, penitentiary system staff, and state security officials. The remaining 11 percent were attributed to representatives of the Ukrainian authorities.
Hostilities in Yemen
Fighting continues in Yemen, more and more families are leaving their homes, thousands of people have crossed the Bab-el-Mandeb Strait and found refuge in Djibouti. The UN and its partners are scaling up humanitarian aid. According to the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs, from August 1 to September 16, more than 18,600 families have left their homes in various parts of Yemen. The Human Rights Office reports 28 civilians killed and 82 injured. These are confirmed figures – the actual numbers are most likely much higher.
High-level Week
The UN General Assembly High-level Week starts on Monday. It will be attended by 73 heads of state, 45 heads of government, 49 ministers, 11 vice presidents, and one crown prince. In addition to official sessions, about 168 events are scheduled for the High-level Week; so far, countries have submitted around 1000 requests for bilateral meetings with each other. Bilateral meetings with the Secretary-General are also planned. More than 3000 journalists will cover the High-level Week.
