Russia’s construction sector continues to work on the development of housing construction. Thus, since the beginning of 2026, developers across the country have started building 26.6 million square meters of housing. This was reported by Deputy Prime Minister Marat Khusnullin.

“In the national project ‘Infrastructure for Life,’ housing is a central element because living conditions determine the quality of life for people. Infrastructure is renewed around housing, new enterprises with services and jobs appear, and overall, territories develop. For several years in a row, we have been commissioning over 100 million square meters of housing. Last year, the commissioning was about 108 million square meters, and including non-residential real estate — almost 150 million square meters, which became the highest figure in the country’s history. From January to August of this year, more than 58 million square meters of residential space were commissioned across Russia — a slight decrease is observed. It is clear that maintaining such high rates year after year is objectively difficult, but stopping is not an option. Construction is an inertial industry: what is started now creates a reserve for the future. Therefore, we continue working on forming the foundation for the next phase of industry growth. Thus, since the beginning of 2026, 26.6 million square meters of housing projects have been launched, which is 6% higher than in the same period last year. It is important that new residential neighborhoods are provided with all the necessary infrastructure for comfortable living for citizens,” said Marat Khusnullin.

The Deputy Prime Minister added that the volume of housing under construction is more than 121 million square meters (+1% compared to the same period last year). Currently, construction permits are in effect for about 170 million square meters. In the first nine months of this year, 2.8 thousand construction permits were issued for 24.7 million square meters of housing.

“The launches of new projects create a foundation for a stable and rhythmic market saturation in future periods and largely serve as a marker of the investment climate in the industry. Importantly, the growth was ensured by regions with construction volumes of less than one million square meters, while regions with a portfolio of more than one million square meters maintained the volume of launches over eight months at the level of last year. This means that we have managed to achieve a more balanced development of the market and make more regions economically attractive both for business and for citizens,” emphasized Deputy Minister of Construction and Housing and Communal Services Nikita Stasishin.
