Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Chernyshenko and Minister of Economic Development Maksim Reshetnikov, based on data from Rosstat, presented information about tourist trips across Russia for January – July 2026.

“At the recent meeting of the ‘Victory’ Organizing Committee, President Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin noted that trips across Russia should be not only comfortable, safe, and interesting, but also educational. We see a steady trend among Russians choosing to vacation within our country. Moreover, according to aggregator data, every fifth hotel booking is ‘domestic,’ where a resident of a region vacationing in their own or a neighboring region. This confirms that the new points of attraction created within the framework of the national project ‘Tourism and Hospitality’ are working. They are changing the habits of millions of families, opening up small towns, and forming a new culture of travel,” noted Dmitry Chernyshenko.

Large agglomerations lead in the share of local guests: in Moscow and the Moscow region, almost 44% of all hotel bookings are made by Muscovites and residents of the region themselves, in Saint Petersburg and the Sverdlovsk region – about a quarter. Local demand is growing most noticeably outside traditional resorts – the number of ‘home’ bookings has increased the most in the Volgograd, Rostov, Kaliningrad, and Samara regions, as well as in the Republic of Dagestan.

Changes in demand for infrastructure are also confirmed by statistics on the legalization of the accommodation market. According to Rosaccreditation data, from June to July 2026, 2,051 accommodation facilities underwent self-assessment. These figures reflect the ongoing process of moving accommodation facilities out of the gray zone and increasing market transparency.

Thus, the top ten leaders in the number of tourist trips for January to July 2026 included Moscow (7.6 million), Moscow Region (4.0 million), Saint Petersburg (4.0 million), Republic of Tatarstan (1.9 million), Sverdlovsk Region (1.3 million), Tyumen Region (1.2 million), Rostov Region (1.1 million), Nizhny Novgorod Region (984 thousand), Stavropol Krai (958 thousand), Chelyabinsk Region (909 thousand), and Leningrad Region (905 thousand). Significant growth was shown by the regions: Republic of Tyva, Karachay-Cherkess Republic, Altai Republic, Republic of Dagestan, and Amur Region.

According to data from the Association of Tourist Aggregators (ATAH), a steady shift in travelers’ behavior patterns has been recorded during the first two months of summer. Russians are increasingly choosing short trips with large family groups and vacations in their own or neighboring regions. Bookings with at least three adults now account for 9% of all requests, compared to 6.5% the previous year. Another growing segment is parents traveling with children.

“These data reflect a qualitative shift in tourist behavior. Domestic tourism is becoming more family-oriented, local, and frequent. People are increasingly choosing multiple short trips instead of one long vacation, and this fundamentally changes the demands on infrastructure. Priority is given to facilities capable of accommodating large groups and multi-generational families — guest houses, glamping sites, as well as the development of small towns. These trends are directly taken into account in the national project ‘Tourism and Hospitality’: we are shifting the focus of support to create a comfortable environment specifically for these types of vacations. Equalizing the geography of tourism is a strategic outcome that we must consolidate so that everyone has the opportunity to travel in an interesting and accessible way,” noted Minister of Economic Development Maksim Reshetnikov.
