Beijing, September 18 /Xinhua/ — On Thursday, the opening ceremony of the “Eurasian Economic Union /EAEU/ Days at the SCO Secretariat” took place at the Shanghai Cooperation Organization /SCO/ Secretariat in Beijing.
The SCO Secretary-General Nurlan Yermekbayev noted at the opening ceremony that on September 17, 2021, in Dushanbe, during the SCO summit, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed between the SCO Secretariat and the Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC).
Thus, on this day, the parties marked the fifth anniversary of the legal framework of cooperation between the two associations with a practical event during the twenty-fifth anniversary year of the SCO, said the SCO Secretary General.
According to him, the SCO and the EAEU are connected by geography, some common member states, an interest in building a multilateral architecture of sustainable development, and steady economic growth.
The Chairman of the EEC Board, Bakytzhan Sagintayev, stated that “EAEU Days is an opportunity to introduce our friends and partners more closely to the Eurasian Economic Union, to talk about the results of its development, our priorities, and plans for the future.”
The SCO holds a special place among the EAEU’s international partners, noted B. Sagintayev, adding that the EEC and the SCO Secretariat have longstanding and warm trusting relations.
At their core is mutual respect, a shared approach to the development of international cooperation, and a commitment to promoting the sustainable development of the countries in the Eurasian space, he emphasized.
The event also featured a photo exhibition “EAEU Countries: Landmarks and Natural Landscapes” and a round table “EAEU-SCO: Activating Economic Cooperation.”
On the same day, the Action Plan for the implementation of the Memorandum of Understanding between the SCO Secretariat and the EEC for 2027-2030 was signed. -0-
