Changsha, September 18 /Xinhua/ — China is promoting its Beidou navigation satellite system in global markets, presenting new products, technologies, and applications at this week’s summit in central China, aiming to position the system as a publicly accessible global service.

At the 5th International Summit on the Application of BeiDou in Zhuzhou City, Hunan Province (Central China), the international cooperation and innovation base for the application of BeiDou was officially opened. It is planned to implement a number of flagship overseas demonstration projects for the application of this system and gradually create a cooperation mechanism linking the Chinese BeiDou industry with international markets.

China is steadily expanding the deployment of Beidou technologies, products, standards, and services abroad, integrating the system into the global infrastructure and contributing to the economic and social development of the countries of the Belt and Road.

The report on the development of the Beidou industry, presented at the summit, states that since the creation of the global network in 2020, the system’s capabilities to provide global services have been continuously expanding, allowing for stable, reliable, and uninterrupted service worldwide.

According to the report, the capabilities of “BeiDou” in positioning, navigation, synchronization, and short message transmission continue to expand, contributing to the global adoption of the system in high-precision application areas such as transportation, agriculture, marine fishing, and emergency rescue operations.

BeiDou is fully integrated into the standard systems of 11 international organizations, including the International Civil Aviation Organization, the International Maritime Organization, and the international COSPAS-SARSAT satellite search and rescue system, covering key areas such as civil aviation, maritime navigation, and mobile communications.

Zhang Junping, a government official of Hunan Province responsible for the business services sector, stated that “Beidou” is currently one of the four global satellite navigation systems recognized by the United Nations (UN), and related products are exported to more than 140 countries and regions.

He noted that in the countries participating in the “Belt and Road” initiative, the market share of results from the application of the Beidou system and related products is 58 percent. Zhang Junpin gave various projects as examples, in particular, the implementation of intelligent management systems at the Chancay port in Peru, the use of the Beidou system for monitoring the friendship bridge between China and the Maldives, as well as precision agriculture in Laos and taxi dispatching in Cambodia.

Experts at the summit noted that satellite navigation is not a zero-sum game and that the Beidou system is ready to ensure compatibility and interoperability with other global navigation systems to jointly create a global spatial-temporal infrastructure. Demonstration projects using Beidou have already been implemented in several countries in Africa and Southeast Asia in the fields of land surveying, disaster monitoring, and fishery management.

Deputy Executive Director of Myanmar’s Space Agency Myo Than noted that there is significant potential for the use of the BeiDou system in Myanmar, especially in areas such as high-precision positioning, transportation, agriculture, surveying and mapping, as well as emergency management.

“Myanmar is interested in deepening practical cooperation with China and other stakeholders in areas such as technical standards, testing and certification, training specialists, capacity building, technology transfer and licensing, and the development of projects for the practical application of the ‘Beidou’ system.”

According to the above-mentioned report, the Beidou system currently provides signal coverage to more than 200 countries and regions. Its advancement in the international market is entering a key transitional phase — from scaling up to creating real benefits, as well as from product export to ecosystem formation. -0-
