An important disclaimer is at the bottom of this article.
The Bank of Russia is starting to publish anonymized data on contracts with derivative financial instruments (DFIs) that were concluded in the over-the-counter market. At the initial stage, the statistics will cover forwards in equities, debt instruments and indices, as well as interest rate and currency-interest rate swaps.
The publication of such data will significantly increase the transparency of the most closed segment of the financial market itself. Detailed information will help market participants build more accurate forecast models and manage their risks more effectively.
Previously, only aggregated indicators of the number and volume of concluded contracts were available to everyone. Now, market participants will receive information about each transaction with all the main conditions. For example, which exact assets are included in the forward contract, their cost, the method of settlement, whether a floating or fixed rate is used in the interest rate swap transaction, and so on. The parties to the contracts are not disclosed.
The initial data covers the period from January 1 to August 28, 2026. They are based on information received from the market participants themselves. The Bank of Russia will update the figures weekly on Tuesdays with a lag of 7 calendar days. In the future, the regulator plans to expand the publication of information on over-the-counter market transactions.
