From September 17 to 30, in the Moscow schools of arts subordinate to the capital’s Department of Culture, additional enrollment will take place for the second and subsequent grades. Thanks to this, young Muscovites will be able to join the classes and continue their creative development.

There are more than 40 fields of study available at 151 educational institutions. Applications can be submitted through portal mos.ru.

“In the 2026/2027 academic year, more than 50 thousand applications were submitted to the capital’s art schools as part of the main and additional enrollment — almost one and a half times more than last year. The most popular areas were ‘Piano’, ‘Painting’, and ‘Folk Instruments’,” said the Minister of the Moscow Government, head of the capital’s Department of Culture.

Alexey Fursin.

The main creative entrance exams for applicants ended on June 15. For those who missed the application deadline, an additional enrollment for first graders opened on June 18. From September 1 to 15, participants took creative tests during which the committee assessed the children’s abilities and recommended the most suitable pre-professional or general development program for them. The results of the creative tests for the additional first-grade enrollment were published on September 16.

After submitting the application for additional enrollment in the second and subsequent grades, the child will be invited to the entrance tests, which will take place from October 1 to 15. The format depends on the chosen direction. In the music department, they will check hearing and sense of rhythm: the child will be asked to sing a simple song and clap a given rhythm. In the art department, the commission will evaluate drawing and composition skills; in the theater department, they will conduct an interview and give creative assignments. Based on the results, the examiners will not only make a decision about enrollment but also recommend the most suitable program.

When transferring from another art school to enter the second and subsequent grades (except for the graduating ones), the applicant must have a certificate of the study period confirming that part of the program has already been mastered.

Education and professional development

Art schools operate as full-fledged educational institutions. Children attend them after regular school, and the weekly workload can reach up to 14 hours. Independent work at home is also provided for.

Pre-professional programs in art schools are designed to last on average five to eight years. Graduates receive a certificate that provides the opportunity to continue their education at a college or university.

More than 7,200 teachers are involved in Moscow’s creative supplementary education. Among them are People’s Artists of Russia, Honored Workers of Culture of the Russian Federation, winners and laureates of all-Russian and international competitions and festivals. Under their guidance, students develop creative skills that will be useful at concerts, master classes, and performances.

The modern system of creative education in Moscow is an integrated mechanism for uncovering and developing talents, where every child receives equal opportunities for self-realization. From initial training in art schools to higher education, all levels are interconnected and ensure the continuous development of creative abilities.
