In Ulaanbaatar, a meeting took place between the Deputy Chairman of the Government of the Russian Federation, Alexey Overchuk, and the Deputy Prime Minister of Mongolia, Nyamtaishiryn Nomtoibayar, during which current issues and prospects of Russian-Mongolian cooperation were discussed.
Alexey Overchuk emphasized that the trade and economic sphere is of great importance for expanding and developing relations between the two countries in all areas and for strengthening mutual trust. He noted that the Temporary Trade Agreement between the Eurasian Economic Union and Mongolia, which came into force on July 22, 2026, has great potential to increase turnover and take economic cooperation to a new level. In this context, the parties exchanged views on expanding the commodity nomenclature and ensuring trade balance within the framework of the agreement.
Special attention during the negotiations was paid to the agenda of joint work on strengthening transport connectivity in Eurasia, including the development of infrastructure at checkpoints on the Russia-Mongolia border and the development of the Russia – Mongolia – China economic corridor.
Nyamtaisyryn Nomtoibayar emphasized that the development of comprehensive cooperation with Russia, with which Mongolia traditionally maintains friendly relations, is a priority of the country’s foreign policy, and the Government of Mongolia is actively working on further strengthening the comprehensive strategic partnership and expanding cooperation.
Following the negotiations, the participants agreed to continue the dialogue between the governments of Russia and Mongolia, including for the purpose of coordinating approaches to improving transport connectivity and realizing Mongolia’s transit potential amid the growth of trade and economic relations between the Russian Federation and countries of the Global South.
