Student and national associations use the free multi-format spaces of the project “Youth of Moscow” for preserving and popularizing culture. There they hold rehearsals, meetings, contests, and other events.
“We are glad that our multifunctional spaces are becoming a reliable support in preserving and popularizing native culture. By providing free venues for rehearsals and workshops, we give young people the main resource — a platform for creativity. For the youth, intercultural dialogue begins in culinary studios and dance halls. Contests, dances, and meetings of compatriot communities
The creative residence “Youth of Moscow. Homeland” (Izmaylovsky Val Street, building 5) is especially popular among youth national associations. For example, Yanzom Dakpa, a student at the Moscow State Institute of International Relations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, rehearsed dance numbers here together with the Moscow youth Tuvan community for the annual contest “Dangyna i Tazhy” (“Miss and Mister of the community”). Each number required an individual approach due to several stages with different choreographic arrangements.
In this very residence, Dugarma Tsyrenova, a student of Lomonosov Moscow State University, together with the regional public organization of the Buryat student association “Gulamta,” was preparing for the traditional beauty, talent, and culture contest “Baatar and Dangina.” In translation from Buryat, the word “baatar” means hero or warrior, and “dangina” means beauty.
The contest was dedicated to folk traditions, language, and customs. Its program consisted of several stages: a national dance, a calling card, and paired talent. Special challenges were also prepared for the participants: the girls demonstrated grace in a catwalk, and the young men competed in the traditional Buryat game “Tebeg.” In it, young men had to hit a special projectile with the inner side of their foot as many times as possible without letting it fall to the ground. The program concluded with a modern energetic dance. This year, eight pairs participated in the contest.
The residence was also used to prepare other events. For example, the Buryat association, together with the Yakut, Tuvan, and Kalmyk communities, held rehearsals here for the interethnic ball “Pattern of Love.”
The Association of Students and Postgraduates of the Republic of Bashkortostan in Moscow and St. Petersburg organizes meetings in the multiformat space “Youth of Moscow” located in Kholodilny Lane (building 3, block 1, structure 8). They help young people maintain a connection with their homeland. In particular, the annual cultural and entertainment event “Ritaim” takes place here, which brings together people who have come to study or work in Moscow from the republic. The program includes dancing, treats, contests, songs, and karaoke. The theme of the event changes: for example, last time it was dedicated to a Bashkir wedding with multiple stages of the ceremony. For the organizers of “Ritaim,” it is especially important to recreate the atmosphere of the native land, which may be lacking far from home. Thanks to such meetings, participants can once again feel like they are with family over traditional treats.
National cuisine, stage costumes, and theatrical performances
Immersive Theater of the Peoples of Russia “Kalyk Shynyk” (“People’s Experience”) uses multi-format spaces for rehearsals, creative workshops, and preparing new performances.
“We rehearse plays about indigenous peoples, create contemporary productions, and even adapt classics. All our work is based on live communication with native speakers of the language and culture. Gathering children from different peoples in one place in Moscow is fundamentally important because these are not just meetings, but the cultivation of values, mutual respect, and the transmission of traditions to the younger generation that has grown up far from their historical homeland. Together we share a piece of our land and feel pride in our multinational heritage,” emphasized Alexey Rybakov, the theater’s leader and director.
The theatre’s repertoire includes performances such as “Altai Tales,” “Relatives Came to Uyarnya,” “A Day in a Mari Village,” and “Milk Day in Khakassia.” Based on the works of Anton Chekhov and Ivan Turgenev, the actors also present productions “Cherry Bug” and “A Week in the Matrix.” Another work by the company is “Blade Runner: Upgrade.”
For different areas of work, the team utilizes several services. In the culinary studio, dishes are prepared according to ancient and modern recipes: Mari kom melna, Altai teerpeki (flatbreads), Khakas talgan (ground grains), as well as signature burgers made Mari-style with lingonberry-honey sauce.
In the art and design workshop, they sew stage costumes and dolls, paint fabrics, create sketches of decorations, and sculpt heroes of Mari mythology. In the media studio, they shoot content for social networks, while in the meeting room and coworking space, they develop new projects. Among them is the Yakut quest-play “Nyurgun Bootur: the Path of Three Worlds” with its own IT platform and web games based on the epics of various peoples.
The theatre plans a large-scale exhibition about the cultures of the peoples of Russia, open to all youth in Moscow, culinary evenings featuring Buryat and Kalmyk cuisine, and the release of merchandise with characters from Tuvan and Mari games. To join rehearsals Muscovites aged over 14 years can.
