Consultant professor of the Department of Architectural and Urban Heritage at SPbGASU Sergey Vladimirovich Sementsov Awarded the Governor of Saint Petersburg’s prize “For Contributions to Strengthening National Unity, Preserving Cultural and Historical Heritage” named after Alexander Nevsky.

The award is given to citizens of the Russian Federation who exemplify conscientious service to Saint Petersburg, fulfillment of civil and military duty, and dedication to the ideals of morality and culture. In 2026, more than 40 applications were submitted for the award, and twelve people became laureates.

Doctor of Architecture Sergey Vladimirovich Sementsov is a prominent specialist in the field of urban planning history, preservation of architectural and urban heritage. He has published nearly 400 scientific articles and monographs. Member of the Union of Architects of Saint Petersburg, advisor to the Russian Academy of Architecture and Construction Sciences.

Professor Sementsov’s scientific interests include problems of studying historical buildings and historical urban planning of Petersburg, the territories of Pri-Neva and Priladozhye before the founding of the Northern capital, as well as the history of creating and implementing the master plans of the city on the Neva. For the monograph “Saint Petersburg in Plans and Maps. 20th Century,” Sergey Vladimirovich was awarded the Gold Medal of the Russian Academy of Arts. A graduate of our university, he has worked for many years in the departments of urban planning and architectural and urban heritage, and from 2012 to 2017, he was the dean of the Architecture Faculty at SPbGASU.

The high award of Sergey Vladimirovich Sementsov is a mark of his outstanding contribution to the study and preservation of St. Petersburg’s historical and cultural heritage and a reflection of the merits of the school for the study and protection of architectural heritage at SPbGASU.
