Recently, as part of the thematic press tour “Reporters retrace the path of the Great March,” media representatives arrived at the International Dry Port of Ganzhou in Jiangxi Province.

The Deputy Head of the Operations Department of the Administrative Committee of the Ganzhou International Dry Port, Liu Lipin, stated that in the past, southern Jiangxi was the departure place of the Red Army’s Long March, and today this land imbued with revolutionary spirit, relying on China-Europe trains, is opening the Long March of external openness for the new era.

According to Liu Lipin, the furniture industry is rapidly developing in the urban county of Nankan, with an annual demand for wood exceeding 10 million cubic meters. Thanks to the China-Europe trains passing through the Ganzhou International Dry Port, more than 95% of imported wood comes from Russia. Russian pine is characterized by high density and good stability, being less prone to deformation and cracking, and it also stands out favorably in terms of price-quality ratio. Continuous supplies of this wood to Nankan allow overcoming the previous bottleneck — difficulties with importing raw materials and exporting finished furniture.

The Ganzhou International Dry Port began as a small customs supervision area for timber. A comprehensive openness platform for inland regions was created from scratch, and the model of “purchasing timber worldwide and selling furniture worldwide” was established. Today, about 150 trains depart annually from China to Europe and other Asian countries: 50 trains are involved in timber imports, and 100 in the export of furniture and other products.

Speaking about the spirit of the Great March and the mission of the new era, Liu Lipin said that the Great March began in southern Jiangxi and embodies the power of striving for change, born out of necessity, and overcoming difficulties. For the international dry port, the Great March of the new era means ensuring uninterrupted operation of international logistics channels, improving customs clearance convenience, and strengthening the economy linked to the port. According to him, in line with the development vector of the Ganzhou dry port, it is actively forming a national comprehensive transport and logistics hub, consistently reducing logistics costs and shortening transportation times, while products of characteristic industries from the old revolutionary area are directed via the “One Belt, One Road” channels to countries in Europe and Asia. All this contributes to writing a new chapter of openness and development for the “red” areas.
