More than 50 photo exhibitions dedicated to various regions of Russia have taken place since 2022 at the booths of the Moscow Directorate of Mass Events, subordinate to the capital Department of Culture. The projects were prepared by both government agencies and commercial organizations.
The geography of the exhibitions presented is extensive. Through them, city residents learned interesting facts about different regions of the country — from Kaliningrad to Kamchatka, from the polar circle to Crimea. Nearly three million people visited the exhibitions on the boulevards and streets of the capital.
Some exhibitions introduced the regions from the perspective of their tourist potential. Residents and guests of the capital could learn about the attractions of the Tver and Orenburg regions, Novy Urengoy, Nizhny Novgorod, the Caucasus, and the Republic of Khakassia, as well as about the nature, sights, and culture of Karachay-Cherkessia, and the wild plant and animal life of Russia.
Thus, the photo exhibition “Kursk Character. Afterword,” organized on Gogolevsky Boulevard in May last year for the 80th anniversary of the victory in the Great Patriotic War, was dedicated to the volunteers, rescuers, medical workers, and ordinary residents working in the Kursk region.
For the 80th anniversary of the formation of the Kaliningrad region, an exhibition titled “Born of Victory” was held. It was dedicated to the history and current development of the region. The exhibition was prepared by the Kaliningrad Regional Historical and Art Museum. It included more than 50 archival shots of war chronicles and contemporary reportage photographs.
Visitors could see photographs dedicated to the storming of the fortress city of Königsberg, the labor feats of the first settlers, as well as the region’s current achievements in culture, science, and industry. Thus, through the exhibition, viewers could trace the region’s journey from post-war reconstruction to the modern stage of development.
For the 12th anniversary of the reunification of the Republic of Crimea and the city of Sevastopol with Russia, a project about the iconic places of the peninsula was prepared. Vivid photographs told about the most significant events of the Crimean Spring of 2014 in modern Russian history, introduced the pace of implementation of unique infrastructure projects, and conveyed the atmosphere of hospitable Crimea.
In August of this year, a photo exhibition dedicated to was also organized at the stands of the Moscow Directorate of Mass Events on Gogolevsky Boulevard 105th anniversary of the Komi Republic. The exhibition allowed Muscovites and city visitors to get acquainted with the nature, history, and culture of the region, as well as told about its connections with the capital. It included photographs revealing three main images of the republic: the harsh northern nature, the centuries-old history of the area’s development, and the distinctive culture of the Komi people. Visitors were able to see the famous weathering pillars on the Manpupuner Plateau in the Pechoro-Ilychsky Reserve, northern landscapes, industrial cities, and small settlements of the region. Special attention was given to the traditional way of life, language, and crafts of the Komi people, which are preserved to this day.
In 2026, the Samara region celebrates two significant anniversaries at once: the 175th anniversary of the founding of the Samara province and the 440th anniversary of Samara. For the anniversary, an event was organized on Tverskoy Boulevard in August photo exhibition, dedicated to the history, nature, culture, and contemporary development of the Samara region.
The photographs told about the region’s natural landscapes, its industrial potential and contribution to space exploration, the history of Kuybyshev during the Great Patriotic War, as well as the architectural heritage and modern cultural life.
On the mos.ru portal appeared large-scale special project, dedicated to the development of key areas of Moscow. These include transport, industry, healthcare, education, sports, and construction. The special project helps to learn how the capital has changed over the past years, what initiatives are currently being implemented to make city residents’ lives even more comfortable, and what awaits Moscow and its inhabitants in the near future.
