Dmitry Chernyshenko held a working meeting with the governor of the Pskov region, Mikhail Vedernikov
Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Chernyshenko held a working meeting with the governor of the Pskov region, Mikhail Vedernikov. They discussed the development of education, tourism, youth policy, science, and sports in the region.
“The Pskov region pays attention to supporting our heroes of the special military operation, the development of adaptive sports. You spoke about this at the meeting with President Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin. It is important that the region also develops innovative sports. Five accredited regional federations are already working on these, including fidgital sports,” said Dmitry Chernyshenko.
The head of the region, Mikhail Vedernikov, confirmed that the issue of developing adaptive sports is of special importance for the Pskov region.
“The region hosts the 76th Guards Air Assault Division and the 2nd Separate Guards Special Purpose Brigade. Servicemen of these units have been carrying out tasks of the special military operation from the very first days,” said the governor.
The region is working on involving these categories of residents in adaptive physical education and sports; however, a specialized center is absent in the Pskov region, explained Mikhail Vedernikov.
“A solution could be the creation of a regional Center for Adaptive Physical Culture and Sports consisting of two facilities — in Pskov and Pechory. The complex in Pskov is proposed to be located in Zavelichye, near the deployment site of the 76th division. The complex in Pechory would be on the territory of the pilgrimage center of the Holy Assumption Pskov-Caves Monastery, where a rehabilitation center for participants of the special military operation is already operating,” added the head of the region.
Dmitry Chernyshenko and Mikhail Vedernikov also discussed the development of education and science in the region. To popularize the profession of a scientist and scientific knowledge, an action plan was approved for holding the Decade of Science and Technology in the Pskov region for 2026–2031. In addition, since last year, three research projects supported by the Russian Science Foundation have been implemented at Pskov State University.
“Pskov Oblast is traditionally one of the cradles of our history and spiritual and moral values. It is important that the region works on developing youth policy and education through the measures of the national project ‘Youth and Children.’ In the city of Pechory, the educational project ‘Istoki.School’ is regularly conducted. This year, one of its sessions was dedicated to the Year of Unity of the Peoples of Russia, declared by our President Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin. Attention is given to updating infrastructure, developing an advanced engineering school, and participating in the federal project ‘Professionalitet,'” noted the Deputy Prime Minister.
He also emphasized that the Pskov region is utilizing the opportunities of the national project “Tourism and Hospitality” – creating networks of modular hotels, renewing urban spaces, organizing major events, developing an accessible environment and national routes. The total amount of off-budget investments solely within the implementation of the comprehensive investment project to create the “Spiritual Origins” tourist cluster amounted to more than 4.3 billion rubles.
Mikhail Vedernikov added that over the past few years, a modern complex of tourist infrastructure has formed in the region around its unique heritage, which has provided the region with a stable flow of visitors, the creation of new jobs, and the development of small areas included in the regional tourist product. With the support of the federal center, new tourist attractions have appeared, the supporting infrastructure has been significantly modernized, and large-scale investment projects have been launched.
