Improving the sound environment

In the autumn of 2025, the Gorky Park used long-term acoustic monitoring technology with artificial intelligence for the first time. It allows to determine what exactly affects the comfort of visitors: transport, recreational activities, entertainment events, or machinery operation.

The system was tested from autumn 2025 to August 2026 as part of the Innovation Fund’s pilot testing program “Moscow Innovation Cluster Five modern noise sensors were installed in the park. The devices were placed in the parterre, near the Restoparking food mall, Golitsyn Pond, and on the dance floor of the central alley.

Sensors in real-time mode transmitted data on the sound level to a monitoring system, which will subsequently be supplemented with artificial intelligence algorithms. This will allow determining what affects visitor comfort. The peculiarity of the approach is that the data is recorded continuously and without human involvement, thus taking into account variable conditions. These include weather, the level of city-wide noise, as well as the seasonal condition of the foliage, which influences sound absorption.

Upon completion of the testing, specialists collected and classified a large amount of data. This data will form the basis for the system’s training. The result of the work will be a detailed report with an acoustic map of the territory and scientifically based recommendations for improving the sound environment.

Preserving historical lilac varieties

Modern technologies are also used for the preservation of historical heritage. In 2025, Gorky Park, together with the Patrice Lumumba Russian University of Peoples’ Friendship, began a project for the microcloning of lilac varieties developed by the breeder Leonid Kolesnikov. This method is a reliable and economical way to preserve valuable varieties. It allows for their mass reproduction and increases the plants’ resistance to diseases. The work is timed to the 100th anniversary of the park, which will be celebrated in 2028.

From May to early June, the unusual shape of the lilac trunks and their aroma attract many visitors to the park. Some bushes have been growing here for more than half a century.

In addition, the technology is used for monitoring the condition of natural objects. In 2024, with the support of the Moscow Innovation Agency, the ‘Potok’ aerators of domestic production were tested on the Golitsyn Pond. The introduction of this technology made it possible to improve water quality and had a positive effect on the condition of the fish and waterfowl.

Creation of complex art objects

An equally technological approach is applied in architectural solutions. Since September 2025, the “Cat” site has been operating at the Golitsyn Pond, featuring the largest themed figure in Russia. A giant ginger cat four meters tall and 22 meters long sleeps in an amphitheater made of oak stumps, trampolines, and swings. Inside the structure is a metal frame poured with special concrete, and the surface is made of safe rubber with coloring that imitates cat fur.

A complex engineering solution made it possible to create not just an art object, but a full-fledged landscape for play. Young visitors can climb the cat’s tail, ropes, netting, and dozens of holds, hang on the whiskers, and the speaking tube inside the figure responds to the child’s voice with a meow. The playground not only entertains children but also instills a careful attitude toward animals and the urban environment.
