Modern A5 generation electric buses have started operating on suburban route No. 1280, which connects the Krasnogorsk urban district with the Skhodnenskaya metro station. This was reported by the Deputy Mayor of Moscow for Transport and Industry. Maxim Liksutov.

“On the new electric bus route, six vehicles will operate on weekdays, stopping at popular attractions and parks. The modern equipment is distinguished by its eco-friendliness and smooth ride, which makes trips more comfortable for residents of Moscow and the Moscow region. We continue to develop the network of electric bus routes, as instructed by Sergey Sobyanin,” added Maxim Liksutov.

In addition to Krasnogorsk (the urban-type settlement of Putilkovo), modern vehicles will operate in four districts of the northwest of the capital: Kurkino, Mitino, Severnoye, and Yuzhnoye Tushino.

Moscow is developing ground urban transport. Comfortable and safe vehicles deliver passengers to rail framework stations, as well as to important social, cultural, sports facilities and points of attraction.

Eco-friendly electric buses

Since 2018, innovative electric traction vehicles have been arriving in the capital. Today, the network of surface electric transport covers all districts of Moscow. Electric buses feature smooth rides, absence of noise and vibrations, which provides an even higher level of travel comfort for passengers. The main advantage of electric buses is their lack of negative impact on the city’s ecology. On weekdays, passengers make on average over 1.2 million trips on them, and since 2018 their total number has exceeded 1.1 billion.

With new deliveries of equipment and the development of charging infrastructure, even more electric bus routes will appear in the city. Moscow’s order for the creation of new equipment supports employment in the regions and stimulates the development of domestic industry.

Electric transport provides the highest level of service and meets the strictest safety standards. Low-floor electric buses are fully adapted for the comfort of passengers with limited mobility. They are equipped with a folding ramp and driver call buttons. If necessary, the driver will assist with boarding and exiting the vehicle.

Bicycles, strollers, or large luggage can be conveniently placed on the accumulation platform. USB slots are installed in the cabin for charging gadgets. In addition, there are media screens that display up-to-date information about the nearest stops and possible transfers.

The climate control system allows for maintaining an optimal cabin temperature at any time of the year. An air curtain, which activates when the doors are opened, helps to retain it inside the cabin.

There are also buttons for targeted door opening. For passenger safety, the transport is equipped with video cameras outside and inside. Digital validators are located near the doors, allowing payment for the ride in any convenient way.

More than 200 A5 generation electric buses will arrive in Moscow by the end of the yearThe first medium-class electric bus “E-Citymax-9” began testing on route No. 286

Since 2022, the capital has been supplied with upgraded equipment vehicles. These electric buses feature adaptive interior lighting, which changes from a cold shade to a warm one at 2:00 p.m. for passenger comfort. The front route indicator has been increased by 18 percent, allowing the number to be seen from afar. An electric heater is installed in the cabin, which does not affect the environment and maintains an optimal temperature. In addition, the new vehicles have an increased range from 40–50 to 80–90 kilometers, while the vehicle’s weight remains the same.

Electric bus depots

Today, electric buses operate at 13 Mosgortrans sites. Moscow was the first in Russia to begin building modern electric bus depots. In 2022, the first in the country and the largest electric bus depot in Europe, “Krasnaya Pakhra,” opened in TiNAO.

The vehicles have started routes in the Novomoskovsky and Troitsky administrative districts.

A year later, the Mitino park was built in the northwest. With its opening, transportation began to operate on routes in 20 districts of the capital and two nearby cities of the Moscow region. At the end of 2023, the third innovative electric bus park, Saltykovka, started operations. It serves routes in the eastern part of the city.

In 2025, the city introduced a new generation of electric buses, the KamAZ-52222. They became even more comfortable thanks to a redesigned interior layout, a loading platform increased by 15 percent, spaces for hand luggage, and a changed door design. Additionally, the efficiency of the climate control system improved, light strips indicating the doors’ opening and closing appeared on the doors. The exterior of these innovative vehicles now better corresponds to current trends in global industrial design.

New generation electric buses are created taking into account the experience of operating earlier models and passenger feedback. Since they began operating, they have traveled more than 10 million kilometers on routes and have proven themselves well in service. The unique vehicles are maintained at 10 Mosgortrans sites.

According to data from Moscow’s environmental monitoring Department of Natural Resource Management and Environmental Protection, thanks to replacing buses with electric buses in the city of Moscow from 2018 to 2025, approximately 1300 tons of pollutants and 300 thousand tons of CO2 — equivalent greenhouse gases — were avoided from being emitted into the atmosphere.

In 2025 alone, approximately 380 tons of pollutants and 110 thousand tons of CO2 equivalent greenhouse gases were prevented from being emitted.
