More than 700 events took place in Moscow from August 26 to September 9 as part of public patronage, including jointly with the Moscow regional branch of the Russian Military-Historical Society. Over 11,000 people joined them. They tidied up monuments, memorial plaques, commemorative signs, and burial sites of participants of the Great Patriotic War, military leaders, Heroes of the Soviet Union and the Russian Federation, as well as scientists, athletes, and cultural figures.

The events were timed to coincide with Moscow City Day and brought together residents of the city of various ages — more than 11,000 people took part and over 700 events were held,” she noted

Event at the monument to Alexander Suvorov
On August 26, a unified day of remembrance was held. Events took place in 11 administrative districts. The main event occurred at the monument to Alexander Suvorov on the square named after the commander. Young Muscovites, representatives of public and veterans’ organizations, and executive authorities cleaned the surrounding area and laid flowers at the monument. The location was chosen deliberately: nearby, in the Meshchansky district, during Alexander Suvorov’s time, there was a home for disabled military veterans. This detail emphasizes the commander’s connection to the capital.
Alexander Suvorov was born in Moscow and spent his childhood there. He lived on Arbat. The monument was unveiled on February 17, 1982, to mark the 250th anniversary of the general’s birth. The monument became one of the symbols of respect for Alexander Suvorov’s contribution to the country’s history.
Wide coverage and participation of urban communities
The events involved members of veteran councils from Moscow districts, youth chambers, students from educational institutions, public advisors, and activists. Representatives from the Main Military Investigative Directorate of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation, the Ministry of Defence of the Russian Federation, the Moscow regional branch of the Russian Military Historical Society, as well as executive authorities of the city, also joined the events. Annually, about 100,000 people participate in similar events. The activities take place at more than 150 cemeteries and other memorial sites. Thus, the capital preserves its historical heritage.
This time, work was carried out at more than 30 city cemeteries, as well as at other memorial sites in the territories of all administrative districts.
