On the platform “Active Citizen — For Children” summed up the results of four thematic surveys dedicated to the active leisure of young Muscovites. Children from six to 14 years old identified the best places for cycling and also named the most convenient sports grounds for outdoor training. More than 21,000 young Muscovites shared their opinions.
The best cycling routes in the parks
Users of the platform have chosen the best parks for bike rides. A list of six routes proposed to young cyclists in survey, helped to compile by an athlete from the Moscow Academy of Cycling Sports.
The best place is recognized as Sokolniki Park. Here, you can ride along the main alley, the large circle, as well as the 1st and 6th Ray Clearings, along Mitkovsky Drive and Cross Clearing, enjoying picturesque routes.
Second place was taken by Izmailovsky Park. This option is perfect for beginner cyclists. The track, about 20 kilometers long, has no elevation changes and runs along a mesmerizing cascade of ponds.
The top three was rounded out by Fili Park, located along the bank of the Moscow River. The 2.5-kilometer route begins at the main entrance from Barklaya Street and runs along the northern part of the park with relic trees, ending at the Konstruktor sports complex. During the trip, you can enjoy a picturesque view of the Moscow River bank.
The best embankments for bike rides
Young Muscovites also named the best embankments for bike rides. To the participants survey nine routes along the capital’s embankments totaling about 48 kilometers were offered to choose from.
The most votes went to the Tsar’s Embankment of the Kolomenskoye Museum-Reserve. The cycling route was appreciated for the opportunity to enjoy a peaceful walk with panoramic views of the Moscow River and green banks.
The second place was taken by Vorobyovskaya Embankment. The bike lanes are suitable for both beginners and experienced riders. The route passes through a nature reserve, and the availability of convenient bike parking allows for a break during the ride to rest in the shade of the trees.
Third place went to the Kremlin embankment. This option is perfect for those who want to combine active recreation with sightseeing: the cycling route runs along the western wall of the Kremlin and offers picturesque views of historical buildings and the Moscow River.
The most interesting parks of the “Green Ring of Moscow” cycling route
Young “active citizens” have identified and parks, which they would like to visit during a bike trip along the “Green Ring.” The 129-kilometer route connects 24 park areas of the capital, metro stations of the Moscow Central Circle, and the Moscow Central Diameters.
The first place was taken by the Kuskovo forest park. It is perfect for a bike trip back in time. During the ride, you can cycle along old alleys, admire the cascade of ponds, and also visit the Sheremetev summer estate.
The second place went to the Losiny Ostrov National Park. While roaming the territory, you can encounter moose, squirrels, hares, and other animals.
The third place was taken by Izmailovsky Park — a monument of landscape art and a specially protected green area. Here you can not only enjoy nature but also enhance your bike ride with boat rides, floating gazebos, or pedal boats.
In addition, the guys shared which features of the “Green Ring of Moscow” bike route attract them the most and who they enjoy biking with. For the respondents, the most important aspect during rides was visiting various parks, and most children prefer cycling with their family.
Favorite sports grounds of young Muscovites
In addition, the favorite ones were identified on the “Active Citizen — for Kids” platform sports grounds in city parks. Young Muscovites talked about where and how they prefer to train outdoors in the summer.
Most respondents preferred exercising on machines. The second most popular option was rope parks, where agility can be tested. Pull-ups on the horizontal bar also made it into the top three.
Among the venues, Gorky Park is recognized as the favorite. Here, for sports enthusiasts, three workout zones are equipped with parallel bars, Swedish walls, pull-up bars, gymnastic rings, ropes, and obstacle courses, as well as running tracks with picturesque views.
The second place was taken by the Kolomenskoye Museum-Reserve, which features an entire sports cluster with areas for badminton, volleyball, basketball, and streetball. There is a mini-football field with artificial turf, two areas with strength training equipment, a workout zone with pull-up bars and rings, zones for chess, table tennis, and panna football. The third most popular was the “Yauza” park, which stretches from the Rostokino aqueduct to the Moscow Ring Road, connecting the territories near Losiny Ostrov, the Main Botanical Garden of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Sokolniki park, and VDNH. It features almost 20 kilometers of running tracks and 17 kilometers of bike paths, as well as more than 100 sports grounds with various equipment and exercise machines.
The surveys were prepared by the platform “Active Citizen — for Children” in collaboration with the capital’s departments transport and development of road transport infrastructure, culture and sports, as well as by the urban economy complex of Moscow. Their results will be taken into account in the further planning of the city’s sports infrastructure.
