In Saint Petersburg, the development of infrastructure for training engineering personnel and scientific research continues. The construction of the above-ground part of the educational and laboratory building of the Saint Petersburg State Maritime Technical University has begun. This was reported by Deputy Prime Minister Marat Khusnullin.

“The development of university infrastructure sets the pace for the training of engineering personnel and scientific research. For the Maritime Technical University, a new building with an area of more than 11 thousand square meters, designed for 1150 students, is an opportunity to expand educational and laboratory spaces where technologies demanded by the shipbuilding complex will be developed and implemented. The work is being carried out under the supervision of the PPK ‘Unified Customer in the Construction Sector.’ Currently, a tower crane has been installed on site, the erection of the above-ground part has begun, the installation of monolithic walls and columns of the first floor is underway, as well as external engineering networks. The construction of the building will significantly expand the research activities of one of the country’s key sectoral universities and create comfortable conditions for student education and scientific research,” said Marat Khusnullin.

The Deputy Prime Minister added that the new building will be equipped with departments, laboratories, lecture halls, classrooms, faculty offices, computer labs, a library with a reading room, secure rooms with special operating conditions, and other necessary spaces. In addition, the building will include a hydroacoustic pool facility.

The building will be constructed with a variable number of floors – 9–10, including the basement.

Earlier, a scientific and production building with an area of more than 2.7 thousand sq. m. was built on the university campus. Unique scientific research and laboratory work are already being conducted here, and students can undergo educational and industrial training, including developing projects related to laser and hybrid metal processing technologies.

“Last year, a new 14-story apartment-style dormitory with an area of over 10,000 square meters also opened on the university campus, accommodating about 400 students and university faculty. In addition to living rooms, the building houses common areas,” noted Karen Oganesyan, General Director of PPK “Unified Customer”.

Saint Petersburg State Marine Technical University is a leading center for advanced scientific, technical, and educational technologies. It is the only university in the country that trains specialists across the entire range of shipbuilding specialties.
